Spring at the Bottom of the Dam feat.Sobs
Natsuko Nisshoku Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Eh

Whoa

Overall Meaning

In the first paragraph, the lyrics describe a favorite place that the singer keeps secret from everyone else. It is springtime and they find themselves at a deserted and dried-up dam with very low water levels. The singer mentions that they cannot imagine anyone they would want to bring along to this place. Despite their expectations of overflowing water, they express disappointment at the current state of the dam.

The second paragraph talks about the comfortable days that pass by without anyone measuring or determining the appropriate distance. The singer reflects on not being able to think of anyone they would want to bring to this place with them. It seems like they may be longing for company but are unable to find someone suitable to accompany them.

In the third paragraph, the singer recalls a heavy rainstorm from the previous day, expecting the dam to overflow. However, they were let down by the lack of overflowing water. They observe that there are flowers blooming everywhere, making it difficult to find a place to step in the springtime. They express a regretful sentiment, saying they should not have bought flowers if they knew it would turn out like this.

In the final paragraph, the singer mentions a bouquet of flowers that they had placed in the passenger seat and brought with them to the dam. They mention the deep appearance of the green-blue lake and wonder which flower would have been appreciated in such a setting. The singer regrets not being able to say, "I should have stopped," and then exclaims, "Eh."

The chorus speaks metaphorically about the flowers that they couldn't give away, saying that they don't exist just like the love that was never expressed. It implies that throwing them away is not a sin and they gather various excuses as they swing their hand above the water, releasing a bright red ribbon that unties and sinks. They imagine that there won't even be any ripples left on the water's surface and wonder if the flowers will bloom at the bottom of the dam someday.

The song concludes by mentioning the bouquet thrown into the bottom of the dam, with that fleeting moment being burned into the blue sky. The singer's eyes can't even remember the name of the flowers, yet they remain unforgettable and never fade away.
