Their initial success was with the song "Come sempre", from the album "Negramaro" recorded in 2003. It was chosen by RAI (the Italian national television) as the soundtrack for its 50th anniversary advertisement.
They debuted in Sanremo's Festival in the young artists section with the hit "Mentre tutto scorre". This song was subsequently chosen as the title track for the movie "La febbre" by Alessandro D'Alatri featuring Fabio Volo. Another eight songs from Negrmaro are on this soundtrack.
In the summer of 2005 they won the 'Best Newcomer' award in Festivalbar with their new single "Estate". With this song they hit the top of the Italian charts and then went on to win "Best Italian Band" in the MTV Music Awards.
Quel matto son io

Un matto in giro con le tasche
Piene di parole
E sogni che nessuno ha realizzato
E non sa coltivare
Se non dentro la sua testa vuota
E dentro le speranze
Di chi non ha mai deciso niente
E carta d'alluminio
È ancora in giro adesso
E vomita parole da un megafono
Che resta spento
E non si dà mai pace
Fino a quando ogni sguardo è appeso
Alle sue tasche ancora troppo piene
Di conigli e fiori
E solo adesso me ne rendo conto
Di me
Dentro a quel cilindro nero
Non nasconde più sorprese
Solo quello che rimane
Senza trucco e senza attese
This song is titled "Quel matto son io" which is about a madman who people talk about because he is always walking around with his pockets full of words and dreams that no one else has been able to achieve. He is seen as someone who cannot cultivate anything apart from within his own empty head and the hopes of those who have never made any decisions. He wraps everything up in cellophane and aluminum foil, burdened with the regrets that every man has, thinking they are excellent remedies against time so that someday he can move in another direction.
The lyrics talk about how the madman is still around, spitting out words from a megaphone, but it falls silent sometimes because he cannot find peace until every gaze is fixed on his still-too-full pockets. He has rabbits and flowers in there, which only now becomes clear as everyone else disappears, realizing that they were only a reflection of his own self-doubt. He wishes he had a bigger hat and more skilful hands, so that he could hide his secret from even those closest to him, but he knows that he cannot escape it.
The song captures the feeling of being lost, unable to find oneself and still holding onto unrealized dreams and hopes. It highlights the sense of isolation, where people are talking about someone, but they are not around because they are only a figment of their imagination. This song is a metaphor for the difficulties of modern-day life, where people have so many dreams and aspirations but cannot find the space to make them come true.

People say that crazy person is still around, spewing words from a megaphone that remains silent. He never gives up until every glance and attention is only on his pockets still brimming with rabbits and flowers. Now, I just realized that there is no one out there, and it's only what I think, while I look around to see my reflection in a mirror too tired to keep reflecting.

I am that crazy person who wishes for a bigger hat and more attentive hands that can hide even from people the secret of what I am. If I had a bigger hat, I could keep you away from that distant world. Amidst flowers and rabbits, the secret wouldn't weigh down on people. But, even the people around me are afraid of me among flowers and rabbits.
Ho sentito ridere dell'uomo delle debolezze

It's laughable to hear about a man's weaknesses, especially when every mistake he makes, he loses his certainties. That black cylinder no longer holds any surprises; it only holds the truth without deception and expectations. It seems like a never-ending well without any flowers to show, and the rabbits tremble, unable to escape. Then, I look around, and my reflection has faded on a tired mirror, dying on top of me.
