A native of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Vargas was a classically-trained tenor who originally sang opera but gained fame with his renditions of popular songs. He made many musical guest appearances in films from 1936 onward, but also had more substantial acting roles in a few pictures, achieving over 70 screen credits in total.
In 1942, Vargas performed at the White House for President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, one of many honors he received during his long career. He also performed in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Vargas died in Mexico City, Mexico at age 83.
Felicidades
Pedro Vargas Lyrics

Por habernos roto el corazón en mil pedazos
Felicidades
Por jugar al juego del amor y hacernos daño
Felicidades
Por jugar con nuestro orgullo con tanta frialdad
Felicidades
Copa a copa y mano a mano
Esta brindis va por ellas
Nos hicieron sus esclavos
Y nos gustan sus cadenas
Seguiremos adelante
Contra el viento y la marea
Que el dolor de sus desaires
Hiere menos que perderlas
Felicidades
Copa a copa y mano a mano
Esta brindis va por ellas
Nos hicieron sus esclavos
Y nos gustan sus cadenas
Seguiremos adelante
Contra el viento y la marea
Que el dolor de sus desaires
Hiere menos que perderlas
The song "Felicidades" by Pedro Vargas reflects on the complexities and contradictions of love and heartbreak. In the first verse, the lyrics express sarcastic congratulations for having their hearts broken into a thousand pieces. It acknowledges the destructive nature of playing the game of love, causing pain and harm to both parties involved.
The second verse continues this sarcastic tone, congratulating the female subjects for playing with their pride and emotions with such coldness. Despite this, the lyrics admit that just a single glance from these women can ignite dreams within the hearts of the singers, highlighting their ongoing attraction and longing.
The chorus of the song adds depth to the lyrics by discussing the emotional and psychological effects of their relationships. The singers toast to the women who have made them slaves to their love and enjoy being bound by their chains. They vow to continue forward against all odds, even though the pain inflicted by their disappointments hurts less than the thought of losing these women.
The final verse further explores the destructive power of the women in their lives. The lyrics sarcastically congratulate them for turning men into sad kings of clowns, stealing their voice, reason, and ability to resist falling in love. The singers acknowledge that these women rob them of sleep, tranquility, and peace, and that living without their presence feels like constant mourning.
Overall, the lyrics of "Felicidades" delve into the contradictory emotions that arise from love and heartbreak. It addresses the power dynamics of relationships and the lingering impact that these experiences have on the singers' lives, highlighting the struggle between the pain caused by these women and the fear of losing them.
