C'era un tempo

Non vedevano che te,
C'era un tempo che dormivi accanto a me
Senza pensare io credevo tu potessi dedicare
La tua vita solo a me.
Eri bellissima,
Quando mi amavi.
Come fosse cominciato,
So soltanto che sei tu che l'hai voluto,
Certo per?, non era un caso tu volessi far cambiare
L'operaio ch'era in me.
Non ti bastavano
Le mie canzoni.
Dicevi che l'amore
? Una strada senza uscita,
Ho spostato le frecce ai crocicchi della vita
The lyrics of Pierangelo Bertoli's song, C'era un tempo, describe the longing for a time when the singer's eyes could only see their loved one, when they would sleep next to each other, and when the singer believed the other person would dedicate their life only to them. The singer describes the beauty of their loved one when they were in love. However, the singer was never sure how the relationship began, only that the other person wanted to change the singer’s life. The other person didn't find the singer's songs satisfying, and despite the singer's desire for the relationship to continue, the other person believed that love was a one-way street, with no escape.
The song reflects the nostalgia of missing someone who once loved you, yet they've moved on. The singer reflects on a past where they believed their lover would never leave them, but they did, shattering their illusions. The singer's confusion and pain are palpable as they wonder what they could have done differently. The song's plea for someone to understand the singer's pain and regret is universal and captures the heartache of a broken love affair. It's a poetic, melancholic reflection of a relationship that was once joyful but is now just a memory.
