Stylisticly, The Feeling have a debt of gratitude to the 70s, particularly bands such as 10cc, Supertramp, Pilot, Buggles, Queen, Stackridge, and other "progressive pop" acts. They are not averse to wearing their heart on their sleeve at gigs, playing covers of tunes by their favourite artists (such as 'Video Killed The Radio Star' by Buggles).
The Feeling have also followed the 'progressive' tradition of the concept album, with Twelve Stops and Home being a concept album about lost and unrequited love. The album starts with a relationship having just broken up, then follows through with the various emotions of the protagonist from hopeless dreamer to turning to drink for comfort, and finally slumping home.
All You Need To Do
The Feeling Lyrics

You can't afford a third degree
And now you're nearly twenty three and your daddy wants to know
What you're doing with your life
Well tell him it'll always be worth while
For when I feel wrong you make me strong
All you need to do is say I love you anyway
A few little words and I am good for another day
All you need to do is say I love you anyway
And I'm back again
(Open up your heart, sing)
I love you
(It's a cure for everything)
I love you
I'm back again
(Doesn't matter where you've been)
I love you
All you need to do is say I love you anyway
Crazy morning
Freak out, warning
Boozy winters
Firewood, splinters
Morning after
Another disaster
I'm looking at the mess and baby I feel so ashamed
All you need to do is say I love you anyway
Oh. all you need to do is say I love you anyway
And I'm back again
(Open up your heart, sing)
I love you
(It's a cure for everything)
I love you
I'm back again
(Doesn't matter where you've been)
I love you
(Baby you can only win)
I love you
(Open up your heart, sing)
I love you
All you need to do is say I love you anyway
Greedy sometimes
Pushy and unkind
But when I do wrong
You smile, it's gone
Da-da-da-dum-da-da
Da-da-da-dum-da-da
All you need to do is say I love you anyway, yeah
Ooooh
The song All You Need To Do by The Feeling speaks to the idea that all one needs in life is love. The person that the singer is addressing feels lost and unsure of what they want to do in life. They are turning 23 and their dad is asking them what they plan to do. But the singer suggests that it doesn't matter what they do, as long as they have love in their life. The line "For when I feel wrong you make me strong" indicates that the love in question comes from a specific person, and that person is the one who can provide the strength and support needed to overcome life's challenges.
The chorus reinforces this idea, with the lines "All you need to do is say I love you anyway / A few little words and I am good for another day." The love in question is so powerful that it can cure everything, as indicated by the line "It's a cure for everything." The singer acknowledges that they are not perfect, with the lines "Greedy sometimes / Pushy and unkind / But when I do wrong / You smile, it's gone." But the love provided by the other person is powerful enough to overcome those flaws and provide comfort.
All in all, the song is a heartfelt message of hope and reassurance. No matter what happens in life, as long as one has love, everything will be okay.
