Stylisticly, The Feeling have a debt of gratitude to the 70s, particularly bands such as 10cc, Supertramp, Pilot, Buggles, Queen, Stackridge, and other "progressive pop" acts. They are not averse to wearing their heart on their sleeve at gigs, playing covers of tunes by their favourite artists (such as 'Video Killed The Radio Star' by Buggles).
The Feeling have also followed the 'progressive' tradition of the concept album, with Twelve Stops and Home being a concept album about lost and unrequited love. The album starts with a relationship having just broken up, then follows through with the various emotions of the protagonist from hopeless dreamer to turning to drink for comfort, and finally slumping home.

Give me the words and I'll say them like I mean it
Cos you got my heart in a headlock
You stopped the blood and made my head soft
And god knows
You got me sewn
Danny boy, don't be afraid, to shake that ass, and misbehave
Danny boy, I now you got time, but what are you waiting for,
Anyway the dust may just blow away, if you wait for a windy day
But you may find the chance has past you by;
I cant do the walk
I cant do the talk
I cant be your friend
Unless I pretend
So give me the song and I'll sing it like I mean it
So give me the words and I'll say them like I mean it
Cos you got my heart in a headlock
You stopped the blood and made my head soft
And god knows
You've got me sewn
Nah nah nah
Danny boy, don't be a fool
Take upon to break the rule
Danny boy your lookin' so low
You lookin' like the dead grown old
Anyway the blues just may wash away, if you wait for a rainy day
But you may find, the chance had past you by
I cant do the walk
I cant do the talk
I cant be your friend
Unless I pretend
So give me the song and I'll sing it like I mean it
Give me the words and I'll say them like I mean it
Cos you got my heart in a headlock
You stopped the blood and made my head soft
You've got my heart in a headlock
You stopped the blood and made my head soft
Made my head soft
Made my head soft
Made my head soft
Made my head soft
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh Yeah, yeah, yeah
The Feeling's song "The Sewn" is a passionate love song, with lyrics that express the singer's desire to give their all to their lover. The lyrics "Give me the song and I'll sing it like I mean it / Give me the words and I'll say them like I mean it" reveal the singer's willingness to be vulnerable and open with their partner, in order to show them the depth of their love.
The chorus of the song, "Cos you got my heart in a headlock / You stopped the blood and made my head soft / And god knows / You got me sewn", expresses the all-consuming power that the singer's lover has over them, with the metaphor of a headlock representing the intensity of their emotions. The repetition of "Nah nah nah" at the end of the chorus emphasizes the strength of the singer's feelings and the overwhelming nature of their love.
The verses explore ideas of mortality and the passage of time, with lines like "Anyway the dust may just blow away, if you wait for a windy day / But you may find the chance has past you by". The idea that opportunities and moments can slip away if we don't seize them is a poignant reminder to make the most of the time that we have with our loved ones.
Overall, "The Sewn" is a heartfelt expression of love and devotion, with lyrics that capture the intensity and vulnerability of being in a passionate relationship.
