Lost in My Mind
The Head and the Heart Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Put your dreams away for now
I won't see you for some time
I am lost in my mind
I get lost in my mind

Momma once told me
You're already home where you feel love
I am lost in my mind
I get lost in my mind

Oh oh oh oh
Oh oh
Oh oh oh oh

Oh my brother
Your wisdom is all that I need
Oh my brother
Don't you worry 'bout me

Don't you worry
Don't you worry, don't worry about me

Oh oh oh oh
Oh oh
Oh oh oh oh

How's that bricklayin' coming
How's your engine running
Is that bridge getting built
Are your hands getting filled

Won't you tell me my brother
'Cause there are stars up above
We can start moving forward

Oh oh
Oh oh oh oh
Oh oh
Oh oh oh oh

How's that bricklayin' coming
How's your engine running
Is that bridge getting built
Are your hands getting filled

Won't you tell me my brother
'Cause there are stars up above
We can start moving forward

Lost in my mind
Lost in my mind
Oh I get lost in my mind
Lost, I get lost, I get lost in my mind
Lost in my mind
Yes I get lost in my mind
Lost, I get lost, I get lost

Oh I get lost
Oh I get

Overall Meaning

Lost In My Mind by The Head and the Heart is a melancholic song about feeling lost and disconnected. The lyrics describe someone who is struggling with their thoughts and emotions, causing them to feel lost and disconnected from the world around them. The opening lines of the song, "Put your dreams away for now, I won't see you for some time," suggest that the singer is struggling with something that is keeping them from pursuing their dreams. This feeling of being lost in one's own mind is a common theme throughout the song.

The chorus of the song, "I am lost in my mind, I get lost in my mind," continues to emphasize the feeling of being lost and disconnected from reality. However, there is a sense of hope that runs through the song as well. The singer's mother once told them that they are already home where they feel love, suggesting that love and connection with others can help them overcome their struggles.

The line "How's that bricklayin' coming, how's your engine running, is that bridge getting built, are your hands getting filled" is a poignant reminder that life is full of work and challenges that can't be avoided. However, the question "Won't you tell me my brother, 'cause there are stars up above, we can start moving forward" suggests that even in the face of these challenges, it is possible to move forward and seek out the beauty in life.

Overall, Lost In My Mind is a deeply emotional song that speaks to the universal experience of feeling lost and disconnected. However, it also offers hope that, with the support of others and a willingness to face life's challenges head-on, it is possible to overcome these feelings and find a sense of purpose and connection.

Love this song and it inspired me to write this

The exhilaration of escape
Pleasures us intimately
Until reality sets in
And escape becomes reality

I am a truthaholic
Finally admitting my problem
Searching for answers
Storms coming, I hope I can calm them

Shit only stinks when you
decide to smell it
grab your fingers and hold your nose
and say to hell with it

Mind over matter
If I dont mind
It doesn't matter, until the bills come
Hope I pay them on time

Hard work pays off
Until you get laid off
People say they will give you a break
Truth surfaces and the mind says mistake

They got people to answer to
Excuses flowing abundantly
But all of them lead
Directly to you...

I lost my youngest son who was 19 in a car wreck last week. My family is grieving and having a very difficult time. We buried him 1 day shy of his 20th birthday. My oldest son is 22 and is lost without his brother. At his lowest point tonight he turned on the radio and this song was playing. He felt as if his little brother was sending him a message. He found great comfort in listen to this song and asked us to listen to it. We sat around crying our eyes out at how touching this was for him to hear. Thank you for making such a beautiful song.

Trees on Mars i am so sorry. I cried reading this. Why? Because I can feel the love. Trust me, your family IS home. And your lost son would always be home. :')

Trees on Mars Thankyou for sharing this.

Trees on Mars I am so sorry for your loss, please stay strong and tell your son to stay strong as well.  I lost my cousin about two years ago to an overdose and this was his favorite song. When my girlfriend lost her cousin to the same thing almost a year later, this song popped up on the radio out of nowhere. Same thing it was as he was sending us a reminder to keep moving forward and letting us know that shes in good hands. Anyways this song has an uncanny ability to pop up in the most needed times and still brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.

I cry now, thinking of your family, everytime I play this song. I feel very deeply for your loss~. I promise your son is in a good place, and will always be with your family in spirit with love and care.

I love how The Head and the Heart songs start out slow and then build into an awesome masterpiece.

people need to get together and start doing crazy stuff like hanging out in the snow singing songs with hundreds of twinkling lights surrounding them. so much possibility in the world and most of it is wasted over the fear of being weird or eccentric.
