Autumn Leaves
Cannonball Adderley Lyrics

The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sun-burned hands I used to hold

Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I'll hear old winter's song
But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall

what a masterpiece, full of melancholy. As a French, i have to say that this song is originally a poem from Jacques Prévert called " les feuille morte" in Eng " the dead leaves" i wish everybody who love this song could know the original text of this beautiful poem who talk about a lost love and the nostalgic of this relationship, i dont know why they changed the lyrics for in the english version ( the fallen leaves) the original version is much better, let me translate it for you guys, for all of us, who lost their lovers.
Oh I would like you so much to remember The joyful days when we were friends.
At that time, life was more beautiful And the sun burned more than it does today.
Fallen leaves can be picked up by the shovelful. You see, I have not forgotten…
Fallen leaves can be picked up by the shovelful, So can memories and regrets.
And the north wind takes them Into the cold night of oblivion. You see, I have not forgotten The song you used to sing me.
(chorus)
This song is like us.
You used to love me and I used to love you And we used to live together, You loving me, me loving you.
But life separates lovers, Pretty slowly, noiselessly, And the sea erases on the sand The separated lovers’ footprints.

You know you're good when you have Miles Davis and Art Blakey as sidemen on your record

Same for the Great Oracle, the Peruvian Syd Barret and The Man Who Acts to me on the Konklin's Plesiosaur Album.

Check Miles' Autobiography. Davis said this was his album but couldn't take it due to contractual obligations.

Dommage que t'ais oublié Cannonball, parce que c'est lui le pillier principal de cette interprétation des "Feuilles mortes" (Vladimir Kosma + Prévert)

although i am only an english speaker, i am quite sure that the translation of the french into english loses something. the johnny mercer lyrics convey a similar if not quite as melancholy sentiment.

Thank you, Now I know what it is that I feel when I hear this haunting tune.

@Steven Pugmire oui c'est bien ça, la meilleure version est d'Yves Montand
