Heavily influenced by his idol, Elvis Presley, and the 1950s rock revolution, he is also known as the most famous dancer of the Hula hoop fad. For the last 40 years he has retained his popularity in Italy, selling millions of records and appearing in numerous TV shows and movies (including a short appearance in Fellini's La Dolce Vita, before becoming a famous artist). In the latter respect, he has also been a creator of a comic genre, with his characteristic walking and his facial expressions. For the most part, his films were commercially successful, in fact in the 1970s and part of the 1980s, he was the king of the Italian box office in low budget movies. As an actor, critics point to Serafino (1968), directed by Pietro Germi, as his best effort.
As a director he frequently casts Ornella Muti, Eleonora Giorgi and his wife Claudia Mori. His best movie like director is "Yuppi Du", winner of The Golden Palm at Cannes Festival. He and Claudia are the parents of Rosita, Rosalinda and Vincent Celentano, the latter most notable to worldwide audiences for playing the Satan character in Mel Gibson`s The Passion of the Christ. He also works often as a host for several Italian television shows.
His 1968 song "Azzurro" has regained popularity in 2006, due to it being the anthem of the Italian national football team (the Azzurri) who won the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The artist Vincent Fiorello has also created a remix of the song.
His last concert-event in 2012, after 18 years without live performances, was transmitted on Canale 5, with over 9 million viewers both evenings.
L'Estate E' Già Qui
Adriano Celentano Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
L'estate però ritornerà
Ci fosse lei a Blueberry Hill
Un senso darei ai giorni miei
Arriva una sventola più bionda che mai
Le fischio per ridere
Lei dice: "Che fai? Che fai?"
La luna spuntò e lei mi baciò
La neve si è sciolta ormai dal caldo che fa
Le rondini tornano, l'estate è già qua
Se lei verrà a Blueberry Hill
Ma è logico che si piazza con me
In Adriano Celentano's song "L'Estate E' Già Qui," the lyrics depict a sense of longing and anticipation for the arrival of summer. The singer expresses a certain level of boredom, but acknowledges that summer will eventually come. This is illustrated through the line "Mi annoio un po’ a Blueberry Hill, L'estate però ritornerà" (I'm a bit bored at Blueberry Hill, but summer will come back). Blueberry Hill serves as a symbolic place of longing and potential happiness.
The lyrics take a turn when the singer encounters a woman who is described as the most beautiful and blond "sventola" (wind) ever. He playfully whistles at her, and she responds with curiosity, asking what he is doing. The line "Lei dice: 'Che fai? Che fai?'" (She says: 'What are you doing? What are you doing?') suggests that the woman is intrigued by the singer's attention. The singer then expresses that if she were to join him at Blueberry Hill, he would find a purpose and meaning in his days.
As the story progresses, the arrival of summer is further emphasized. The melting snow, the return of the swallows, and the mention of the moon rising and a kiss from the woman all symbolize the arrival of warmer days. The line "La neve si è sciolta ormai dal caldo che fa, Le rondini tornano, l'estate è già qua" (The snow has melted already from the heat, the swallows return, summer is already here) conveys the transition from winter to summer.
The last verse expresses the hope that the woman will choose to be with the singer at Blueberry Hill. The line "Se lei verrà a Blueberry Hill, Ma è logico che si piazza con me" (If she comes to Blueberry Hill, but it's logical that she will choose me) reveals the singer's confidence and belief that their connection is undeniable.
Overall, "L'Estate E' Già Qui" captivates the listeners with its longing for summer, the serendipitous encounter with a beautiful woman, and the hope for a meaningful connection at Blueberry Hill.
