A disciple of Luciano Pavarotti and Zucchero Fornaciari, the blind, Tuscany-born, vocalist has emerged as one of the most exciting voices in contemporary opera. His participation in Pavarotti's 1992 hit, Miserere, and Fornaciari's 1993 world tour brought him international attention. Opera, however, represents only one side of his musical persona. Bocelli has been equally successful as a pop ballad singer, having recorded duets with Celine Dion, Sarah Brightman and Eros Ramazzotti. Al Jarreau, who sang with Bocelli during The Night of Proms in November 1995, praised Bocelli when he said, "I have had the honour to sing with the most beautiful voice in the world." Bocelli grew up on a farm in Lajatico, a rural village in Tuscany. Beginning piano lessons at the age of six, he later added flute and saxophone.
Despite his obvious musical talents, Bocelli didn't consider a career in music until he had studied law at the University of Pisa and had earned a Doctor Of Law degree. Inspired to pursue music, he studied with famed tenor Franco Corelli, supporting himself by performing in piano bars.
Bocelli's first break as a singer came in 1992 when Fornaciari auditioned tenors to record a demo tape of Miserere, which he had co-written with Bono of U2. Successfully passing the audition, Bocelli recorded the tune as a duet with Pavarotti.
After touring with Fornaciari in 1993, Bocelli performed as a guest star in the Pavarotti International festival held in Modena in September 1994. In addition to performing solo and in a duet with Pavarotti, Bocelli sang with Bryan Adams, Andreas Vollenweider and Nancy Gustavsson. In November 1995, Bocelli toured Holland, Belgium, Germany, Spain and France with "Night Of Proms", which also featured Al Jarreau, Bryan Ferry, Roger Hodgson of Supertramp and John Miles.
Bocelli's first two albums -- Il Mare Calmo Della Sera in 1994 and Bocelli in 1996 -- showcased his operatic singing. His third effort, Viaggio Italiano, featured famous arias and traditional songs from Naples. Although released only in Italy, the album sold more than 300,000 copies. With his fourth album, Romanza, released in 1997, Bocelli turned to pop music. The album included the hit, Time to Say Goodbye, recorded as a duet with Sarah Brightman. Bocelli continued to focus on pop balladry with his fifth album, Sogno, released in 1999, which featured a duet with Celine Dion of the David Foster- and Carole Bayer Sager-penned tune, The Prayer, sold more than ten million copies, received a Golden Globe award and led to Bocelli being nominated for a Grammy as "best new artist".

E sone sempre in mezzo ai guai
Vivo e ti domando cosoa sei
Vivere per poi capire all'improvviso
Che in fondo questo vita tu
Non l'hai vissuta
Vivere cercando ancora il grande amore
Vivere come se mai dovessimo morire
Vivere per poi capire all'improvviso
Che in fondo questo vita tu
Non l'hai vissuta mai
Ti dico no
Ti dico sì
Ti dico che
Ho voglia di vivere
The song "Vivere" by Andrea Bocelli is a poignant reflection on life, love and the struggles and challenges that come with it. The opening lyrics focus on the singer's own experiences of living, always feeling as if he is in the midst of trouble and searching for meaning. He acknowledges his own limitations as an artist and as a human being, but expresses a deep love for love itself, even if he doesn't always understand or relate to other people. The chorus offers a more universal perspective, highlighting the fact that nobody is ever really taught how to live, and everyone must find their own way through the muddle of the past and present.
As the song progresses, there is a sense of rising urgency and emotional intensity. The second verse takes on a more cerebral tone, with references to the limitations of mirrors and the vastness of God. The third verse brings the listener back down to earth with a vivid description of homelessness and deprivation, and a plea for empathy and understanding. Finally, the song reaches a crescendo with the repetition of the phrase "Vivere" and a declaration that the singer wants to live, with all its ups and downs and surprises.

Vivo ricopiando yesterday
I live copying yesterday
E sone sempre in mezzo ai guai
And I'm always in trouble
Vivo e ti domando cosoa sei
I live and I ask you who you are
Ma, specchio, tu non parli mai
But mirror, you never speak
Io che non potrò mai creare niente
I, who will never be able to create anything
Io amo l'amore ma non la gente
I love love, but not people
Io, che non sarò mai un Dio
I, who will never be a God
Vivere, nessuno mai ce l'ha insegnato
Living, no one ever taught us how to do it
Vivere, fotocopiandoci il passato
Living, photocopying our past
Vivere, anche se non l'ho chiesto io
Living, even though I didn't ask for it
Di vivere, come una canzone che
To live, like a song that
Nessuno canterà
No one will sing
Ma se tu vedessi l'uomo
But if you saw the man
Davanti al tuo portone
In front of your door
Che dorme avvolto in un cartone
Sleeping wrapped in cardboard
Se tu ascoltassi il mondo
If you listened to the world
Una mattina
One morning
Senza il rumore della pioggia
Without the sound of rain
Tu che puoi creare con la tua voce
You who can create with your voice
Tu pensi i pensieri della gente
You think the thoughts of people
Poi di Dio c'è solo Dio
Then there is only God
Vivere, nessuno mai ce l'ha insegnato
Living, no one ever taught us how to do it
Vivere, non si può vivere senza passato
Living, you cannot live without the past
Vivere è bello anche se non l'hai chiesto mai
Living is beautiful even if you never asked for it
Una canzone ci sarà
There will be a song
Sempre qualcuno che la canterà
Someone will always sing it
Qualcuno non mi basta
Someone is not enough for me
Vivere cercando ancora il grande amore
Living still searching for true love
Vivere come se mai dovessimo morire
Living as if we should never die
Vivere per poi capire all'improvviso
Living to suddenly understand
Che in fondo questo vita tu
That in the end, you
Non l'hai vissuta
Have not truly lived it
Ti dico no
I tell you no
Ti dico sì
I tell you yes
Ti dico che
I tell you that
Ho voglia di vivere
I have a desire to live
