Santa Muerte
Brodka Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey, little prick
I can feel your breath on my neck

Hey, not quite ...
Come with me and I will make your day

So you would find
The magic flight

Hey, what's in your mind
You will never stop to wonder why
Hey, I will come
Take your hand
Together we're one

So, you and I
Go through the nigh

Bring your love and save
Nothing is wrong
I'll carry on it forever
Bring your nasty ring
Keep me with you
Hold me
I will stay forever

Hey, sing with me
How sweat it would be
Oh, Mother Night
Feel the Day
Ocean never ...

... you and I

Bring your love and save
Nothing is wrong
I'll carry on it forever
Bring your nasty ring
Keep me with you

Hold me
I will stay forever

Overall Meaning

The song "Santa Muerte" by Brodka carries the theme of death and rebirth. As the song progresses, it seems to describe a meeting between the singer and Death, who is represented by the Mexican folk figure, 'Santa Muerte'. Death is personified as a "little prick" who whispers in the singer's ear. The singer, intrigued by Death's invitation to explore the unknown, agrees to join her. The lyrics suggest that through this journey of death and rebirth, the singer will be able to find the "magic flight" and become one with Death.

The song continues with the singer expressing their desire to bring their love and save, as nothing is wrong. This could refer to their desire to save themselves from the pain of living, or perhaps saving those around them from the same pain. The singer also asks to be held, suggesting their desire for comfort and companionship in their journey. The song ends with a call to sing with Death and feel the sweetness of it all.

Overall, the song is a meditation on death and rebirth. It touches on themes of desire, comfort, and companionship, as the singer explores the unknown through the guidance of Santa Muerte.

Brodka's artful vision is pushing back boundaries.

Already a star in her native Poland, the singer arrived at the Great Escape with a show that had been rigorously prepared.

One of the weekend's true stars, her performances caused a huge buzz to descend on new English-language album 'Clashes'.

Videos such as 'Santa Muerte' probably explain why. Delicately, artfully shot, it's features a Japanese Butoh dancer, hand-picked by Brodka to expand on the song's themes.

Brodka explains: “When I first watched the documentary 'Dance Of Darkness' it completely blew my mind. I've never seen anything like that before. It was very theatrical, expressive but actually Butoh dancing is something unclassifiable and totally unique. For me Butoh is a dance of life and death, light and darkness. I automatically connected it with the story from Santa Muerte. The video is about a journey which is a metaphor of life. The journey ends by the river which is the border of life. That's where we meet death but actually who's death is it in the video? In the magical ritual they're crossing the border to the afterlife and becoming light. Shooting this video was a magical experience for me and all the crew.”

Hey little death
I can feel your breath
Upon my neck

Hey not quite yet
Come with me and
I will make you tame

So you will find
A magic light

Hey once you're mine
You will never stop
To wonder why

Hey I will come
Take your hand
Together we are one

So you and I
Will rule the night

Bring your love and say
Nothing is wrong
I’ll carry your bones wherever

Bring your dusty wreck
Keep me with you
Hold me and stay forever

Hey sing with me
Father day how sweet
Your love can be

Oh mother night
I fear the day
I wish it never may come

Soon what was said
Will be undone

Bring your love and say
Nothing is wrong
I’ll carry your bones wherever

Bring your dusty wreck
Keep me with you
Hold me and stay forever

Główny bohater to pewnie leśnik, któremu został rok do emerytury. Podoba mi się finał, ponieważ jestem leśnikiem i wiem, że czeka mnie na koniec życia piękna nagroda ;)

"Santa Muerte," premiering here on CH, Brodka transports us to a mystical desert. Inspired by a trip she took to Mexico, "Santa Muerte" is named after the skeleton folk saint of death. "I was really surprised by how people treat death there," she tells CH. "Young kids from a very early age are taught not to see it as something depressing, but something that tells you about the next life, and not really in a sad way. The song is like a conversation with death but treating it as a conversation with a friend. We have this relationship with death all of our lives."
