In 1952 he joins an international competition for the first time in Belfast, Ireland, where he wins the first prize.
However it takes till 1954 before he records his first songs, mainly songs about life at sea and some country music.
He soon extends his career by learning to act, and he will join several movies in Germany.
1956 sees Freddy representing Germany at the first Eurovision Song Contest together with Walter Andreas Schwarz. It is the only year that countries enter the contest with two songs. No points are given, and only the winner, Lys Assia is anounced.
Freddy's songs however become instant hits in Germany, Austria, Luxemburg, the Netherlands and Belgium and several other countries.
"La Paloma","Junge, komm bald wieder" and "Die Gitarre und das Meer" bring him fame, golden records and many awards.
Freddy keeps singing all his life, and in 2002 he makes his last tour, which ends in the city where he is born : Vienna.
Lass mich noch einmal in die Ferne
Freddy Quinn Lyrics

Noch einmal auf die Meere geh′n
Lass mich Millionen gold'ner Sterne
Noch einmal nur, noch einmal seh′n
Ich wär so gerne hier geblieben
Doch fahren Schiffe nach Hawaii
Hab ich hier alles abgeschrieben
Ich zähle die Tage
Wann geht es hinaus?
Ich halt es vor Sehnsucht
An Land nicht mehr aus
Lass mich noch einmal in die Ferne
Noch einmal auf die Meere geh'n
Lass mich Millionen gold'ner Sterne
Noch einmal nur, noch einmal seh′n
Ich zähle die Tage
Wann geht es hinaus?
Ich halt es vor Sehnsucht
An Land nicht mehr aus
Lass mich noch einmal in die Ferne
Noch einmal auf die Meere geh′n
Lass mich Millionen gold'ner Sterne
Noch einmal nur, noch einmal seh′n
The lyrics of Freddy Quinn's song "Lass mich noch einmal in die Ferne" (Let me go into the distance once again) express a yearning for the open seas and the desire to embark on a new adventure. The singer longs to venture out into the distance, to sail across the oceans and see millions of golden stars once again. Although there is a sense of reluctance to leave behind what is familiar and comfortable ("Ich wär so gerne hier geblieben" - I would have liked to stay here), the allure of new horizons and the call of exotic destinations such as Hawaii are too strong to resist.
The song captures the restlessness and wanderlust that often arise when one feels trapped or stagnant in their current surroundings. The singer has already mentally prepared themselves for departure, having put everything in order and ready to leave ("Hab ich hier alles abgeschrieben" - I have written off everything here). They eagerly count the days, growing increasingly impatient as they can no longer bear the longing and longing for the open sea ("Ich zähle die Tage, wann geht es hinaus? Ich halt es vor Sehnsucht, an Land nicht mehr aus" - I count the days, when will we head out? I can't stand it on land anymore due to longing).
The lyrics beautifully convey the yearning for exploration, the fascination with the vastness of the ocean and the desire to experience the beauty of the world once again. It is a song that resonates with anyone who has ever felt that pull towards the unknown and the longing to escape the confines of everyday life.
