T… Read Full Bio ↴The group was born in 1990 when Andrés Calamaro arrived in Spain.
There he teamed up with Argentinean Ariel Rot, who had already played with him in Argentina, and the Spaniard Julian Infante. Rot and Infante had been composers of the youthful group Tequila. The three of them, along with Germán Vilella, - the other Spaniard in the band, - began their tests and small concerts in Madrid.
At first they were going to call the band 'Los Locos', but they soon found out that there was already an Asturian group with that name. The definitive name is due to Calamaro's amusement from the Spanish expression 'to be in Rodriguez' (when the head of a household must stay in the city for work reasons, while his wife and children enjoy themselves at the beach), because he himself was 'in Rodriguez', since he had left his fiancée in Argentina.
After composing their first songs they released their first album in 1991: 'Buena Suerte', which had great acceptance in Argentina, mainly because of Fabiana Cantilo's cover of the song 'Mi Enfermedad'. In Spain, nevertheless, it did not succeed, mainly because the recording company that published it (Passion) went bankrupt soon after the release. In 1992 they released a live album called 'Disco Pirata', with recordings from their Madrid, Barcelona and Caracas shows. In 1993 they again released a studio record, 'Sin Documentos'. In 1995 they released their last studio album 'Palabras Más, Palabras Menos', with famous songs like 'Mucho Mejor' or 'Milonga Del Marinero Y El Capitán'.
After a final tour, the group decided to separate after releasing a greatest hits album entitled 'Hasta Luego'.

Los Rodríguez Lyrics

Ya no existo, ya no os molesto
Enterradme y no tapadme
Pues os detesto
Qué bueno era
Qué gran don delito
Vaya usted con dios
Sol y sombra compañero
Es el trago que yo quiero
Qué bueno era Mark Knopfler
Qué gran carrera
Iba para delineante
Cuánto talento tenía el tuerto
Pobrecito el angelito don delito
Vaya usted con dios
Pobrecito el angelito don delito
Vaya usted con dios
The lyrics of Los Rodriguez's song Sol y Sombra tell the story of a man who feels dead and no longer wants to exist. He asks to be buried without being covered, as he detests those who are still alive. He reminisces about the past, mentioning how great someone named Mark Knopfler was, and how much talent a one-eyed delineator had. He also mentions "don delito," which means "Mr. Crime" in Spanish, leading some to believe that he may have been involved in unlawful activities himself. However, he pities those who are, calling them "angelitos," or "little angels," and wishes them to go with God.
The tone of the lyrics is dark and reflective, possibly hinting at a sense of regret for past actions. The reference to Mark Knopfler, a well-known guitarist and singer, could be a comment on the fleeting nature of fame and success, while the mention of a talented delineator could represent unfulfilled potential. The phrase "sol y sombra" (sun and shade) is often used in bullfighting, where the fighter moves between zones of light and darkness to avoid being struck by the bull. In the context of the song, it could represent the highs and lows of life, and the desire to taste both.
