Este hermoso Trio fue fundado por el tambien famosa primera voz Hernado Aviles, de origen portorriqueño, despues de haber dejado el celebre Trio Los Panchos. Este Trio de Los Tres Reyes logro una perfecta armonizacion de las voces con un bellisimo requinto ejecutado hermosamente por Gilberto Lapuente. Solo hay que escuchar la perfecta ejecucion de ODIAME para darse cuenta de esto. En suma, la original primera voz de Hernado Aviles unida con las magistrales guitarras de Gilberto Lapuente y su hermano en la Armonia hacen de este Trio algo unico.
Cabe destacar que Los Tres Reyes explotaron excelentemente el ritmo del vals peruano en muchas interpretaciones como, aparte de Odiame, Extravio y otras.

Nacido en Nuevo León, pero criado en Nuevo Laredo, el mexicano Gilberto Puente (requintista) comenzó a cantar, junto con su hermano Raúl Puente (2da. guitarra), en 1947 y formó un dúo llamado Los Cuates Puente. A ellos se unieron en 1951 Gustavo Puente y luego Hermilio García, debutando en 1954 como Trío Puente García. Después de asociarse con José Porras y Chelo Silva en 1957, se mudaron a la Ciudad de México, llevándose bien con la popular cantante Virginia López y llamándose a sí mismos "Los Tres Reyes". En 1958, el ex-integrante del trío Los Panchos Hernando Avilés se unió para hacer su primer disco. El punto central del trio es el requinto del Maestro Gilberto Puente con un estilo dinamico que oscila desde el jazzAmericano, la rumba cubana, hasta el folklore Latinoamericano. Un orgullo Mexicano.

La perfeccion cantada, y "tocada" debo decir tambien pues este gemelo Puente raspaba ese requinto entre los mejores. Que belleza de repertorio nos dejaron. Wow!!!! Mientras mas estudio su mu'sica mas cuenta me doy de la perfeccion de este trio en todo aspecto. Que grande!!! Quien pudo haberse gozado este tremendazo trio en vivo con Cheito, Aviles, o con Bebo, o cualquiera de esos monstruos que cantaron ahi.
