Gente Metropolitana

The song "Gente Metropolitana" by Pierangelo Bertoli portrays the daily commute of people on the metro, where individuals are cramped together, fighting against their dark thoughts in a place devoid of peace. The lyrics demonstrate the frustration and boredom of the mass of people who travel regularly underground to do their jobs, facing the never-ending advertising and noise in the subway. The song is divided into three stanzas, each depicting the experiences of different people on the subway. The first verse introduces a lady who speaks non-stop, and a man who looks at her and wonders what she wants. The second stanza portrays people's experiences with noise pollution, particularly from motorcycles, and the third stanza focuses on people's constant worry about money and their quest for pleasure.
The song has a critical tone towards city life, particularly the commute, indicating that the commuting process is steeped with problems such as pollution, monotony, and a lack of liberation. In the end, the lyrics ask for help in learning to fly, which is likely a metaphorical reference to the feeling of being trapped and constrained.
