Voglia di libertà

E poi seguirti fino in capo al mondo
Mi vestirei di stracci come so
A volte servirà l'ipocrisia, a volte qualche piccola bugia
In the song Voglia di libertà, Pierangelo Bertoli expresses his desire for freedom and adventure, as he longs to play his guitar a little longer and follow someone to the ends of the earth. He describes himself as someone who is willing to dress in rags and become a wanderer, ready to share his past with anyone who will listen. His past, however, is a collection of mediocrity and an acceptance of everything, which has cost him the love of his life - his freedom. He laments about the fear of leaving the shelter provided by the small and banal world he lives in, where cheating seems to reign supreme, and those who do not cheat are undervalued.
He talks about looking into the mirror without hypocrisy, revealing the truth of the world and washing away the shame of compromise that is rampant all around him. He acknowledges his indecisiveness but takes comfort in the fact that once he steps through that door, a new world will open up before him that is uncertain yet free from deceit. In this world, he will have no one to answer to, no one to call him "dad," and no woman to love except for his freedom. He believes that having the courage to leave this sheltered world is not a matter of purchasing it like cheese but rather a deeply ingrained part of one's character, and it is not easily found.
The song highlights the human desire for freedom and adventure, the challenges we face in breaking away from norms and how this is relevant to everyone. It emphasizes the deep-rooted fear and shame associated with compromises and exposes the truth of a mundane society ruled by cheats and the undervalued. It speaks to the idea that true freedom can only be attained through courage, honesty, and a willingness to accept the sacrifices that come with it.

I wish I could play a little longer

And then follow you to the end of the world

I would dress in rags as I know how
E sarei pronto a fare il vagabondo e a raccontare a tutti il mio passato
And I would be ready to become a wanderer and tell everyone about my past
Che è un campionario di mediocrità
Which is a collection of mediocrity
Ad accettare tutto mi è costato
It has cost me to accept everything
Ed ho perso te che amo libertà
And I lost you who love freedom
For you, I would overcome this fear of leaving naked and tired from the walls
Di questo mondo piccolo e banale
Of this small and banal world
Dove regna chi bara e chi non vale
Where cheaters and those who do not matter reign
Mi specchierei ma senza ipocrisia
I would look at myself without hypocrisy
Nell'acqua dove affonda la bugia
In the water where the lie sinks
And I would wash from my heart the shame of the compromises made in this sewer
You see me a little undecided but what does it matter
Mi basterà varcare quella porta
It will be enough for me to cross that door

And a new world will open up uncertain but clean of deceptions
And I will have no one to take care of, no one to call me dad
Non una donna da dovere amare
Not a woman to have to love
Ma un solo amore la mia libertà
But only one love, my freedom
But I should throw away the fear of leaving naked and tired from the walls
Of this small and banal world where cheaters and those who do not matter reign
Specchiarmi e farlo senza ipocrisia nell'acqua dove affonda la bugia
To look at myself and do it without hypocrisy in the water where the lie sinks
To wash from my heart the shame of the compromises made in this sewer
It is easy to talk, but if you do not have courage inside, you cannot find it
It is not like a piece of cheese that you can buy when you feel like it
If freedom means giving up everything that reality offers
Allora cara amica mi dispiace, mi spiace tanto ma io rimango qua a sopportare ancora la paura
Then dear friend, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, but I'll stay here to still endure the fear
Of living every day within the walls of this small and banal world
Dove regna chi bara e chi non vale
Where cheaters and those who do not matter reign
A volte servirà l'ipocrisia, a volte qualche piccola bugia
Sometimes hypocrisy will be necessary, sometimes a little lie
But one does not live so badly in this sewer
Se sai nascondere bene la vergogna.
If you know how to hide shame well.
