Ryan was just 14 years old when he formed his first band called Stage. While still in high school the band played the CBGB's and the Mercury Lounge.
As Ryan grew older he decided to become known as the solo artist R. Star, releasing "Songs From The Eye Of An Elephant".
Ryan was one of the finalists on the CBS reality television show of the second season of Rock Star in July and August of 2006. The show is a talent show type reality show in which the band Supernova is looking for a lead singer to front their band. This show's producer and the drummer of the show is Tommy Lee. On the show, Ryan showed his diverse style from melodic and moving piano to rocking the Rolling Stones.
Ryan still performs in the NYC area with members from the group Stage.
Ryan has performed on such popular shows as Rachael Ray and Late Night With Jay Leno.
His track "Brand New Day" is the theme song to the Fox television drama Lie to Me.
His track "Last Train Home" was featured in the movie P.S. I Love You.

Re-imagining a song is not a slap in the face to another artist. YOU may prefer the original but for others that don't this is a way for more people to enjoy the lyrics. I think this version just as much as the original. It adds another dimension to the song.

This version of the song actually made me hear the lyrics so I know what it's about. I love this song now. I never realized how socially concious and meaningful it was. It would be great if Trent Reznor would let him perform it. The words to this song have more meaning today in W's piss-on-the-poor America than ever. It's a great time for people to here this song.

I agree with you sandbothe. I find myself coming here to see if there's more of him. I want to hear and see more. I LOVE his voice, talent, performance, and he's damn hot too! He brings the passion to music that it needs. He makes people understand what the song is about and really feel it. I've tried to encourage people to listen to lyrics for years but most do not. Ryan makes them desire to do so and even if they don't they will still get it!

He's the best overall musician in the competition...close behind is Magni. His vocals are great and heartfelt. I feel he is like this years JD Fortune...both of them started out fairly slowly, but after the original songs they did(Back of Your Car and Pretty Vegas), they vaulted themselves into contenders. I hope he wins.

this is sweet as. forget the fact that its not Trent Reznor, and forget that its not goth. as a guitarist and a performing artist, he's done an amazing job of adapting the NIN song as a solo piece.

I was NOT a Ryan fan on Rockstar. I didn't get all the fuss about him. His original was good, but the only time I was blown away by him was when he did Losing My Religion. I've been listening to some of the stuff that he did before Rockstar and the album that he has out, and it is amazing. I think the thing is that he wasn't doing HIS type of stuff on Rockstar usually, so it never came off well. When he sings what he does best, he's amazing. This is a good example of that!

supernova is all about exposure. I don't believe for a second that anyone actually wants to play with the little reject squad they are. Anyways, Ryan will get a deal after this for sure with all the exposure, regardless of how well he does on the show.

I disagree with my one of your opinions. The lack of instrumentation brings focus towards the lyrics. Plus I think the acoustic guitar brings a whole new interpretation to the song. I think stripping down hardrock songs can show the non-hard rock community what talent may lie beneath the "Rocker" facade. Ryan Star captured the song perfectly in my opinion.

the beginning is a bit bland, but when he gets further into the song and actually shows some feeling in his singing, its not too bad. I never understood the whole thing of breaking stuff down into acoustic though, I've always felt that it was just a lame attempt to make it appealing to a bigger audience. Ya know, so you can make more money off something without putting too much effort into doing something original. That part doesn't really pertain to this video though since its not his song.

Trent, for example, could make up or at least come to a consensus with Manson, etc. also as a side note, rock "stars" who's fans bite eachs others throaths, very often well know love and respect each other.
