Derided by critics early in his career, Weiland was known for his flamboyant and chaotic onstage persona; he was also known for constantly changing his appearance and vocal style, for his use of a megaphone in concerts for vocal effect, and for his battles with substance abuse. Now widely viewed as a talented and versatile vocalist, Weiland has been ranked in the Top 100 Heavy Metal Vocalists by Hit Parader (No. 57).
In 2012, Weiland formed the backing band The Wildabouts. The band received mixed reviews, and some critics and fans noted Weiland's failing health. In December 2015, Weiland died of an accidental drug overdose on his tour bus in Minnesota at the age of 48. Upon his death, many critics and peers offered re-evaluations of Weiland's life and career; those critics included David Fricke of Rolling Stone and Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins, who identified Weiland as one of the "voices of the generation" alongside Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley.

Have Yourself a Merry Little C
Scott Weiland Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Let your heart be light
From now on your troubles will be out of sight, yeah
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yuletide gay
From now on your troubles will be miles away, oh
Here we are as in olden days
Faithful friends who are dear to us
They gather near to us once more, ooh
Through the years we all will be together and
If the fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bow, oh yeah, oh
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now, oh, oh
Faithful friends who are dear to us
They gather near to us once more, oh, oh
Through the years we all will be together and
If the fates allow, oh yeah
But 'til then we'll have to muddle
Through somehow, oh yeah, oh, oh
And have yourself a merry little Christmas
Now, ooh yeah, oh, ooh
In this classic Christmas tune by Scott Weiland, the message is clear: let go of your worries and enjoy the holiday season. The song urges listeners to embrace the Christmas spirit and be of good cheer. The opening lines “Have yourself a merry little Christmas / Let your heart be light" sets the tone for the song. The singer wants you to let all your worries and troubles slide away, and enjoy the beauty of the holiday season. The song speaks to the listeners' hearts with the idea of finding joy in the present moment and not being weighed down by the negative aspects of life.
As the song progresses, Scott Weiland's soothing voice and the gentle melody of the music create a feeling of nostalgia. The lines “Here we are as in olden days / Happy golden days of yore" take you back to the happy memories of Christmas past, surrounded by family and friends. The song reminds you of the importance of the people in your life, “Faithful friends who are dear to us / They gather near to us once more.” It speaks to the heart of humanity and the need for communal celebrations.
In the end, the song leaves us with a message of hope for the future with the lines “Through the years we all will be together and / If the fates allow / Hang a shining star upon the highest bow." Scott Weiland encourages listeners to come together during the holiday season, to put their troubles aside and embrace the joy and hope that comes with new beginnings.
