Derided by critics early in his career, Weiland was known for his flamboyant and chaotic onstage persona; he was also known for constantly changing his appearance and vocal style, for his use of a megaphone in concerts for vocal effect, and for his battles with substance abuse. Now widely viewed as a talented and versatile vocalist, Weiland has been ranked in the Top 100 Heavy Metal Vocalists by Hit Parader (No. 57).
In 2012, Weiland formed the backing band The Wildabouts. The band received mixed reviews, and some critics and fans noted Weiland's failing health. In December 2015, Weiland died of an accidental drug overdose on his tour bus in Minnesota at the age of 48. Upon his death, many critics and peers offered re-evaluations of Weiland's life and career; those critics included David Fricke of Rolling Stone and Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins, who identified Weiland as one of the "voices of the generation" alongside Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley.

Lad Your Roof Brings Me Down
Scott Weiland Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I've become the painted clown -I'll paint your town
When your roof It tears me down -Wears me down
You stare me down - Down Down Down Down
Lady
When today I thought there was sun -But sun stole away
When your roof It tears me down -Wears me down
I'll be your clown - Down Down Down Down
Lady
Pitchin' and reachin' and poundin' and fallin'
Now... Lady
In Scott Weiland's song "Lady Your Roof Brings Me Down," the lyrics describe a person's feeling of being weighed down and worn out by the challenges they face. The "roof" symbolizes the burden or barrier that is causing this feeling, dragging the person down and contributing to their status as a "painted clown." Despite this, the person is still willing to follow the "rules" and be led by the "Lady" referenced in the song. The lyrics imply a sense of submission and dependency, as well as the desire to continue pleasing the person despite the difficulties they face.
The lyrics also contain imagery and metaphorical language that contribute to the overall meaning of the song. The use of the sun as a metaphor for hope and positivity created a sense of contrast between the struggles faced by the person and the possibility of something better. Additionally, the combination of verbs such as "pitchin'," "reachin'," and "poundin'" create a sense of struggle and imbalance that is further emphasized by the repetition of the word "fallin'."
