Born in Salzburg, then in the Holy Roman Empire and currently in Austria, Mozart showed prodigious ability from his earliest childhood. Already competent on keyboard and violin, he composed from the age of five and performed before European royalty. His father took him on a grand tour of Europe and then three trips to Italy. At 17, he was a musician at the Salzburg court but grew restless and traveled in search of a better position.
While visiting Vienna in 1781, Mozart was dismissed from his Salzburg position. He stayed in Vienna, where he achieved fame but little financial security. During his final years there, he composed many of his best-known symphonies, concertos, and operas. His Requiem was largely unfinished by the time of his death at the age of 35, the circumstances of which are uncertain and much mythologized.
Le nozze di Figaro: Cinque... dieci... venti... trenta...
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Trentasei... quarantatré...
Ora sì ch'io son contenta;
Sembra fatto inver per me.
Cinque...
Mio caro Figaro,
...dieci.
...guarda un po',
Mio caro Figaro,.
...venti.
...guarda un po'.
...trenta...
...guarda un po',
Guarda adesso il mio cappello...
...trentasei...
...guarda
Adesso il mio cappello...
...quarantatré.
...guarda un po',
Mio caro Figaro, guarda
Adesso il mio cappello, ecc.
Sì mio core,
Or è più bello,
Sembra fatto inver per te.
Guarda un po', ...
Sì mio core...
Ah, il mattino alle nozze vicino
Quanto è dolce al mio/tuo tenero sposo
Questo bel cappellino vezzoso
Che Susanna ella stessa si fe'.
Cosa stai misurando,
Caro il mio Figaretto?
Io guardo se quel letto
Che ci destina il Conte
Farà buona figura in questo loco.
E in questa stanza?
Certo: a noi la cede
Generoso il padrone.
Io per me te la dono.
E la ragione?
La ragione l'ho qui.
Perché non puoi
Far che passi un po' qui?
Perché non voglio.
Sei tu mio servo, o no?
Ma non capisco
Perché tanto ti spiace
La più comoda stanza del palazzo.
Perch'io son la Susanna, e tu sei pazzo.
Grazie; non tanti elogi: Guarda un poco
Se potria star meglio in altro loco.
The song "Cinque... dieci... venti... trenta..." is from the famous opera "Le nozze di Figaro" (The Marriage of Figaro) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In the song, Susanna, the bride of Figaro, counts up to forty-three while trying on her hat, and Figaro is there to witness her every move. The lyrics start with Susanna counting from five to thirty and then to forty-three while Figaro intermittently remarks to look at her hat. Susanna feels happy and satisfied with her hat, and she tells Figaro that it looks perfect on her.
In the next part of the lyrics, Figaro is measuring the bed that the Count has given them and is trying to find the right place to put it. Susanna questions his activity and asks him why he is doing so. Figaro tells her that he wants to ensure that the bed fits well in the room assigned to them. Susanna tells him that they have got the most convenient room in the palace, and Figaro argues with her that he is only trying to do his best.
The song shows the playful banter between two characters as they go about their preparations for their upcoming marriage. The playful melody and rhythm complement the lightheartedness of the lyrics and the joy of the occasion.
