Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's song Communio Lux Aeterna are reflective of a solemn prayer. The words "Lux Eterna Luceat Eis" mean "May eternal light shine upon them" and "Cum Sanctis Tuis In Eternum" mean "With your saints forever." This prayerful song is an expression of love and hope for the departed. The lyrics seek God's mercy and grace as they give comfort to the living.

The song's first verse seeks God's eternal light for the departed souls. It asks for the light to shine on them with the saints forever. It's a reminder of the belief in the afterlife and the hope that the souls will reside in the place of eternal happiness. The second verse is a plea for God's mercy to grant them eternal rest. It's an acknowledgment that life on earth is fleeting and temporary, and the hope is for a lasting peace in the afterlife.

The allegro literally brings tears to my eyes. It's the prettiest yet most powerful thing I've ever heard.

@DrWhopotte

I'm no expert on music or a professional commentator, but Lux Aeterna, with only what I can describe as sombre tones, truly made me reflect on the deaths of those I've been with and the sadness and grief that's been endured as a result of their loss. At that point, I was on the verge of turning this video off, but then I heard the more joyous choir between it and I realised that despite all the sadness that may come of death, at least they are now free of the physical burdens of the world. Lux Aeterna - 'eternal light' indeed. Mozart was a genius.

@Robinwhiteart

Glad you stuck it out. Classical music offers a lot for the heart and the soul and the burdens there in.

@kosta5980

this part actually was not written by Mozart, but by Xavier Sussmayr, after Mozzarts death

@fooberdooge3103

@@kosta5980 It's still all Mozart, though, since it repeats the beginning.
