It was the only information officially shared about the band, but they have expanded their fan base by word of mouth, mostly through the Internet, to such an extent that their latest album ねえママ あなたの言うとおり (Hey Mom, It's Just as You Say) went up to number 8 in the Oricon weekly album chart.

They are also known as their music videos with CG animation and have won a variety of awards worldwide.
In 2010, their music video for 夏を待っていました ("Waiting for the Summer") won the Excellence Award at the 14th Japan Media Arts Festival. amazarashi’s 夏を待っていました and サカナクション's アルクアラウンド were the only music videos that won the awards that year.

The lyrics of amazarashi's "おもろうてやがて悲しき東口" paint a vivid picture of the bustling and chaotic atmosphere in the middle of the scorching hot Shinjuku district. The imagery presented is sharp and striking, with a homeless person humming a nameless song that resonates with an unsettling undertone akin to stray bullets. This juxtaposition is further exemplified by the sight of a cabaret club worker boarding a taxi, highlighting how societal norms can be overshadowed and trampled by the relentless pace of urban life.
The mention of a forgotten memorial tablet wrapped in a lost-and-found newspaper, as well as the fallen Antares star and the colossal face floating on the horizon, symbolize a sense of neglect and insignificance amidst the grandeur and chaos of the city. These symbolic elements serve as a reflection of the alienation and detachment experienced by the individuals in this urban setting, where even the celestial wonders seem to lose their luster in the midst of human excess and inebriation.
The recurring theme of loneliness and vulnerability is poignantly addressed in the lyrics, emphasizing the internal struggles faced by the singers who find themselves unable to embrace solitude. The metaphorical reference to a Kalashnikov, a powerful and destructive weapon, underscores the sense of inner turmoil and emotional fragility that permeates their existence. Despite this turmoil, there is a sense of individual resilience as they choose to adorn their hearts with this vulnerability and continue walking alone, defying the expectation of losing oneself in the crowd.
In essence, "おもろうてやがて悲しき東口" delves into the complexities of human emotions and the overwhelming nature of urban life, where moments of humor and sadness intertwine seamlessly. The lyrics capture the fleeting and transient nature of existence, showcasing how individuals navigate their way through the cacophony of the cityscape while grappling with their inner demons. It serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of human connections and the resilience required to confront the inherent loneliness that accompanies the urban experience.

Eventhough it's short, this always has been a top favorite for me. Akita's voice just so filled with much emotional weight.
