Hemel Op Die Platteland
Fokofpolisiekar Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Kan jy my albasters vir my vind?
Reguleer my, roetineer my
Plaas my in 'n boks en merk dit veilig
Stuur my dan waarheen al die dose gaan
Stuur my hemel toe, ek dink dis in die platteland
Dis hemel op die platteland
Dis hemel op die platteland
Dis hemel op die platteland
The lyrics of Hemel Op Die Platteland by Fokofpolisiekar are a scathing critique on the mundane and predetermined societal norms that people are expected to adhere to. The first two lines, "Kan jy my skroewe vir my vasdraai? Kan jy my albasters vir my vind?" seem like a literal request for someone to screw something in or find some kind of object. However, in the greater context of the song, it represents the desire to find someone who can give meaning to life, someone who can help hold things together or find something worth holding onto.
The rest of the song talks about the societal norms that people are expected to adhere to, such as the idea of normalcy and playing the role of an apathetic bystander. The band questions the belief of calling upon God and asking for help when society seems to have cast Him aside. The chorus is a mantra of each verse's theme, expressing that true happiness and fulfillment lie in finding one's own heaven on earth, in the simplicity of the countryside.
In summary, the song delivers a powerful message about the disillusionment one feels about societal expectations and the realization that true happiness may lie in finding personal fulfilment outside of these expectations.
