Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain
Alain Bashung Lyrics

Blue eyes crying in the rain
When we kissed goodbye and parted
I knew we'd never meet again
Love is like a dying ember
And only memories remain
And through the ages I'll remember
Blue eyes crying in the rain
Someday when we meet up yonder
We'll stroll hand in hand again
In the land that knows no parting
Blue eyes crying in the rain
Blue eyes crying in the rain
The lyrics to Alain Bashung's song Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain are a poignant reflection of love and loss. In the "twilight glow," the singer observes their significant other's blue eyes crying in the rain as they part ways and end their relationship. The imagery of tears falling in the rain is a powerful symbol of the emotional depth of their separation. The singer acknowledges that despite the pain both parties are experiencing, they will only have memories left once the relationship has ended.
Yet, there is a glimmer of hope in the last verse. The singer suggests that they will meet again in a place "that knows no parting," perhaps referencing an afterlife or a spiritual belief. The final line of the song is a repetition of the chorus, emphasizing the intensity of the emotion being conveyed. The song is a timeless expression of the universal experience of love and loss, capturing the essence of human emotion in a simple yet powerful way.

In the twilight glow I see your
During sunset, I witness your
Blue eyes crying in the rain
Eyes full of tears that are blue, falling in the rain
When we kissed goodbye and parted
When we last kissed and said our goodbyes
I knew we'd never meet again
I understood that we'd never see each other again
Love is like a dying ember
Love is comparable to a slowly fading fire
And only memories remain
Leaving only memories behind
And through the ages I'll remember
Even through time, I'll recollect
Blue eyes crying in the rain
Eyes full of tears that are blue, falling in the rain
Someday when we meet up yonder
At some point in the future when we'll reunite up there
We'll stroll hand in hand again
We'll hold hands and walk once more
In the land that knows no parting
In a place where there is no separation
Blue eyes crying in the rain
Eyes full of tears that are blue, falling in the rain
