Quand on était là-bas
The lyrics to Debout sur le zinc's song "La vie à deux" explore the complexity of relationships and the dance between love and doubt. The song begins with questions about the trance and steps that the singer and their partner are dancing together. It reflects on the stages of a relationship, where at first they love each other and believe they are meant to be together. But then, the singer admits that they no longer love their partner, yet they still stay together in this state of limbo. They question whether they should continue with this arrangement or if they should let go completely.
The second verse reminisces about a time when they lived together and the joy they found in their shared life. The wind of emotions gently rocked them, whispering that their partner was their sun, friend, path, beauty, morning wake-up call, and anthem of happiness. However, time passes and sometimes disregards everything. The singer wonders why, despite having loved their partner so strongly, doubts still linger.
The chorus repeats the same sentiments, questioning whether their partner is indeed their sun, friend, path, beauty, morning wake-up call, and anthem of joy. Despite all the uncertainty, the singer continues to dance this dance with their partner, holding on tightly and fighting against fate. However, in the end, life mocks compromises, suggesting that regardless of their attempts, the truth will eventually reveal itself.
Overall, the lyrics of "La vie à deux" delve into the complexities and uncertainties of relationships, capturing the struggle of loving someone while grappling with doubt and the passing of time.
