Heavily influenced by American rock & roll, Mitchell (who went solo in 1963) has often recorded outside France, at first in London, but later in Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee. Guitarist Jimmy Page and drummer Bob Graham were among the British session musicians who regularly supported him in London.

The lyrics of Eddy Mitchell's song "La Fenêtre" tells the story of a man who wants to reconcile with a woman he has hurt in the past. Oh, moi qui adore Johnny, je peux t'affirmer que son répertoire de scène ne variait pas beaucoup. Des sempiternelles " Gabrielle, la musique que j'aime, le bon temps du rock'n'roll, que je t'aime, le pénitencier et noir c'est noir " on ne peut pas dire qu'il se servait de plus d'une cinquantaine de chansons. Alors que sans vouloir paraître présomptueux , je pense bien connaître sa discographie, il en avait de toutes les époques y compris 60 qui étaient superbes, qu'il n'a jamais chanté sur scène.
