Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first album, "Oh oh Chéri", appeared, with the title song written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. The flip side of the record, "Tous les garçons et les filles" became a huge success, which sold 2 million copies. She had long hair and usually wore jeans with a leather jacket, while accompanying her songs on the guitar.
She sang in English, Spanish, and German occasionally. In 1963, she represented Monaco in the Grand Prix d'Eurovision de la Chanson with "L'amour s'en va" and emerged in fifth place. In 1968, she received the Grand Prix du Disque Académie Charles Cros.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had already had a son (Thomas Dutronc) in 1973. In May 2000, she had a comeback with the album "Clair Obscur". Her son played the guitar, and her husband sang the duet "Puisque vous partez en voyage". Iggy Pop and Etienne Daho participated, as well. She currently lives near Paris.
In 2006 she released a new duets album entitled "Parenthèses" which included a song with her son Thomas.
In 2021, Hardy announced that her health had worsened and that she would not be able to sing again owing to the effects of cancer therapy.
Le fou de la reine

Il y a tant de pas
Beaucoup trop je crois
La nuit tombe déjà
Entre rires et larmes
J'ai perdu mon âme
A vos jeux de dames
Et de rois...
J'étais pour vous
Un clown voilà tout
L'idiot et le fou
Tellement fou de vous...
Pardon jolie dame
De quitter le jeu
Je dépose les armes
Adieu...
De vous à moi
Il ne restera
Pas grand chose je crois
Vous êtes loin déjà
Votre rire, mes larmes
Quelques bleus à l'âme
Pour un pauvre diable aux abois
Car je n'aurai jamais été pour vous
Qu'un clown voilà tout
L'idiot et le fou
Tellement fou de vous
Adieu jolie reine
Rendez-le heureux
Ce prince qui vous aime
Pour deux
The song "Le Fou De La Reine" by Françoise Hardy is a timeless classic about an unrequited love. The lyrics are poetic, and the melody is melancholic, creating a powerful emotional impact on the listener. The song is about a man who is desperately in love with a woman, who sees him as nothing more than a clown. The man confesses his feelings to the woman and realizes that he has lost his soul to her, but she does not reciprocate his love. The man leaves the game of love with a broken heart, and the woman is gone, leaving him with only memories of her laughter and his tears.
The lyrics are filled with symbolism, such as the "games of kings and queens" representing the game of love and the "clown" who symbolizes the man's position in his love interest's life. The song's emotional impact is further enhanced by Françoise Hardy's distinct voice, which adds depth to the poignant lyrics.
Overall, "Le Fou De La Reine" is a beautiful song that speaks to the universal experience of unrequited love. The lyrics are rich in meaning, and the melody is both haunting and beautiful.
