In 1990, some friends recorded her at the Petite-Vallée song festival without her consent, but she completed a performance there and was regarded as a huge success. The following year she won at the Granby song festival for her rendition of Jacques Brel's "Amsterdam". That same year she was invited to take part in the festival Les FrancoFolies de Montréal.
In 1993 she represented Radio Canada at the "Truffe de Périgueux" festival held in Périgord, France. She carried off the prize for Best Singer in the "chanson francophone" (French song) category. Following her success in France, she was noticed by songwriter Luc Plamondon who was looking for emerging talents to perform in a new production of his rock opera Starmania. There, Boulay portrayed the role of Marie-Jeanne.
In 1996, Isabelle Boulay provided the singing voice for Alys Robi in the television series of the same name. She released her debut album, Fallait pas, that year.
Two years later, came "États d’amour" an album that included some of her most popular songs. "Je t’oublierai, je t’oublierai", "La lune" or "Le saule".
The following years were filled with success and recognition all over the world. In that time her albums "Scènes d’amour", which included thirteen live duets and "Mieux qu'ici-bas" were released. This last one became an instant success.
"Au moment d'être à vous" was again recorded live in Montreal in 2002. Acompanied by the Symphonic Orchestra of Montreal, she performed her favourite songs from many composers.
"Tout un Jour" was released in 2004 and it included 14 new songs.
"Du Temps pour Toi" was recorded live at L'Olympia in Paris and released in 2005 and a DVD of the concert was also released.
In 2007, she went back to her childhood memories and songs and recorded a Country music album called "De Retour à la source"
In the spring of 2008 she released an album produced in France, "Nos Lendemains" that you can hear in her official site: www.isabelleboulay.ca
Quelques Pleurs

La douleur du temps
Quand il est sans demain
Et de vivre en silence
Et si peu d'espérance
Quand tes yeux ne voient rien
Oh tu sais maintenant
Tout ce que l'on comprend
Est à jamais perdu
Laisse couler quelques pleurs
Pour adoucir tes peurs
Juste quelques pleurs
Comme on arrose une fleur
Quelques pleurs
Oh tu sais maintenant
Le goût des matins blancs
La vie sans la couleur
Plus que savoir tu ressens
Le vide qu'il y a dedans
Quand on n'est que langueur
Tu restes au fond de toi
Où personne ne va
Et tu dérives assise là
En attendant ses pas
Laisse couler quelques pleurs
Pour adoucir tes peurs
Juste quelques pleurs
Comme on arrose une fleur
Quelques pleurs
Même si tu savais d'avance
Que l'amour est faïence
Et que les contes de fées
Ne sont que des contes de fées
Tu as voulu y croire
Aveugle de l'histoire
Et tu restes au fond de toi
Où personne ne va
Et tu restes au fond de toi
Où personne ne va
Et tu laisses aller tes pleurs
Pour adoucir tes peurs
De quelques pleurs
Quelques pleurs
Quelques pleurs
Quelques pleurs

The song "Quelques Pleurs" by Isabelle Boulay is about the pain and loneliness one experiences when love is lost. The lyrics reflect on the understanding one gains of the passing of time and enduring pain when there is no hope for tomorrow. The opening lines acknowledge the realization of time's agony when the future is uncertain, and "living in silence" with little hope for betterment. The lyrics convey a sense of resigned acceptance and suggests that the hurting individual now understands the reality of life; a life where love fades away, relationships falter, and the future may seem hopeless.
As the song progresses, the lyrics mention the emptiness and sadness that lingers in one's life. Even if one became aware that love is not forever and fairytales don't come true, the hurt remains. The verses "Et tu restes au fond de toi où personne ne va" meaning "You remain deep within yourself where no one goes," captures the internal torment that is not visible to others. The song suggests that it's okay to let yourself feel pain and shed a few tears, even if it means masking it from others; tears that can be akin to watering a flower that is growing but has yet to flourish.
In summary, the song "Quelques Pleurs" is about acknowledging and accepting the pain that comes with heartbreak, loneliness, and understanding that bad endings are a part of life. It's about taking a moment to feel the hurt and let the emotions flow without worrying about what others may think or say.

L amour est un collier
Ou un panier percé
Du fond si tatoué
Qu un collier tatoué
Est à la fois d être
Plus fou ou plus à démettre
C un fait pour une histoire
Une épreuve du quand dit elle
Si souvent à crier dans le noir
Qu une étincelle en plein ciel
C à qui du jeu si tu me veux
Si tu me tue tue moi au mieux
