On January 26, 1986, French humorist Coluche, who had set up Les Restos du Cœur a few months earlier, invited a number of artists and public figures to appear on television as a promotional move. The band, whose line-up was never the same, was dubbed "Les Enfoirés" in reference to one of Coluche's catchwords. After Coluche died in a motorbike accident (June 19, 1986) his widow, Véronique Colucci, called on those who had participated to continue his actions, and the band was revived for a further television show. The concept has since evolved into an annual concert, bringing together up to forty artists and celebrities from various backgrounds. The funds raised by the concerts and derived records under the name "Enfoirés" are donated to Les Restos du Cœur.
One of the key features of Les Enfoirés is "La Chanson des Enfoirés", a song which became a sort of hymn to the charity, written by Jean-Jacques Goldman, a long-time supporter of the organisation.

N'aime-t-on jamais assez?
N'aime-t-on jamais assez?
In the song "4 mots sur un piano" by Les Enfoirés, the lyrics evoke a sense of longing, regret, and introspection. The singer reflects on the four words left on a piano by someone they cared deeply for, symbolizing the remnants of a past relationship. The mention of "quatre c'est autant de trop, je sais compter" suggests that the memories and emotions attached to those four words weigh heavily on the singer, hinting at a sense of overwhelm in trying to process the aftermath of the relationship.
The lyrics delve into a familiar narrative of heartbreak and unreciprocated love, characterized by the singer feeling like they are the one left behind while others move on. The line "trois moins deux qui s'en vont, ça fait moi qui reste" poignantly encapsulates the feeling of being discarded or overlooked in a romantic equation, highlighting the pain of not being able to compete with a rival for the affection of the person they care about.
The singer expresses a sense of inadequacy and self-doubt when comparing themselves to the person who has seemingly captured the heart of their beloved. They question what the other person has that they lack, emphasizing their internal struggle to understand why they were not enough to keep the love they cherished. The reference to Lucifer whispering about the act of sharing hints at a temptation to possessiveness or jealousy that adds to the torment of longing for something unattainable.
The theme of missed opportunities, unfulfilled promises, and the weight of unspoken words permeates the lyrics as the singer reminisces about the lost moments and the regret that shadows their memories. The imagery of playing cards and searching for the missing queen alludes to the complexities of love and the uncertainties that accompany emotional entanglements. Ultimately, the song grapples with the universal question of whether love, no matter how deep, is ever truly enough, leaving the singer questioning the nature of their own capacity for love and the limits of their emotional resilience.
