One of MC Solaar's first claims to fame was the rap he did on a level one French language education tape: "Comment t'appelles-tu?".
MC Solaar's first single, Bouge de là, was a French hit in 1990 that went platinum, as was his first album, Qui Sème le Vent Récolte le Tempo. His second album, Prose Combat, may be his most acclaimed.
As a rapper MC Solaar is known for the complexity and poetry of his songs, which rely on wordplay, lyricism, and philosophical inquiry. The music is based on dance rhythms and sensual grooves. In the English-speaking world, Solaar was signed by London acid jazz label Talkin' Loud and invited to record with British group Urban Species and Guru, a member of the famous and highly-acclaimed New York group Gang Starr.
MC Solaar gained new fans in North America in early 2004, when his 2001 song La Belle Et Le Bad Boy was featured on the final episode of the popular television series Sex and the City. MC Solaar remains best-known outside of France for his work on Guru's Jazzmatazz project and as a guest rapper on the Missy Elliott track All N My Grill. nice effort but there were a few mistakes here and there, im a native frenchspeaker so allow me to point them out for u if u please;
1) "Une heure de colle" is french slang for dentention, I.E when you are caught doing something you are not supposed to do at school, you get what is called "une heure de colle" that is you spend extra hours in class after school as punishment, so an hour of glue here doesn't translate in my opinion.
2)"Il volait des Corvettes" means he was stealing them, not flying them, in french to steal and to fly are the same verb, you have to differentiate the meaning according to the context even if there are plenty of other words in the french language that means to steal.
3)"Si IL devenait triangle, ELLE serait rectangle" translates to "If HE became a triangle, SHE would be rectangle", not it ;)
4)"Un truc de ouf style pure clip de R&B" in french isnt at all A real pure style egg ouf R&B, I dont even know what you mean by that, whats the egg got to do with anything xd
In french, "Un truc de ouf" is slang and it means something like "a crazy thing" so perhaps it would have been a better translation had u put in something like A real fuckin pure style thing straight out of an R&B clip (not perfect i knu but more accurate).
5)"Son mec se jette dans les flammes et il se lave avec..." the pronoun "son" here refers to his girlfriend, meaning it is not "his guy", but "her guy" or "her boyfriend" or "her man throws himself into the flames and he's washing with (them)".
6)"Pour gagner des sous ensemble" means to earn money together, not win it. In french there is no distinction between to earn money and to win money but in this case i think it would have been better translated had you put in EARN instead of WIN.
7)"Balancer la concurrence" isnt swing the competition at all.
"Balancer la concurrence" means they ratted on the competition , not swinged it lol.
"Balancer" as its first meaning indeed means to swing however here, the verb "balancer" is used as slang.
Otherwise the rest is pretty good ! But dont forget that in french, slang doesnt translate word to word.
