They are well known for their use of eclectic sampling, having created their debut album, Since I Left You (2000), entirely out of over 3,500 samples of obscure records, movies, and television shows. This is famously demonstrated on their hit single "Frontier Psychiatrist".

Before this, they were a hip-hop group with the single album Rock City and the EPy El Producto. After a 16 year hiatus, they released their sophomore album Wildflower (2016), which was followed by We Will Always Love You (2020).

2. A defunct American surf rock group
NOTE: The former band actually got their name from the latter, as The Avalanches' " Ski Surfin''" album was known to be their favorite album.
The Avalanches was an instrumental surf rock studio group, active in the 1960s, which included Billy Strange, Tommy Tedesco, David Gates (later of Bread) and Hal Blaine. In 1963 they recorded an LP Ski Surfin', which was re-released in 2007.

@G Sam yeah thats not it. Their album Since I Left You literally has upwards of 3500 samples. Theres a huge difference between playing or singing over ONE sample (basically a backing track) and composing with samples. All the nuances of what can (or can't) be done with instruments or voices that you're trying to use now have to be found elsewhere. It's very tedious work since youre constantly listening to more and more new music for inspiration, but the end result is this weird marriage of different musical periods forming something real instruments or voices by themselves could ever accomplish (not that its objectively better, but there is a lot of merit to this kind of art)

@TachirosLament yup that's him...another fun fact is that his verse is the only new part of this video outside of the choreography of course....the actual song being sung is an old song from the early 1900s some kids from a Harlem building were recorded singing various songs...they only dropped one album together...I can't recall the name, but if I find it I'll edit my comment...if you get a chance prior to me coming back look it up....oh yea and the beat is new...but yea the kid is not really singing...the vocals are sampled

I just came across this video for the first time and was shocked when I heard the verse. Recognized Sonny Cheeba immediately. Camp Lo still making music after all these years without any commercial hits so it's good he got to shine on a song that was this successful.

The kid reminds me of my nephew. He never sang before for me, but he has a great sense of humor that he doesn’t see. Now his voice is deep. When he was ten, he would sound like this guy. He has a good talent in other areas. His is going to be a famous man from the national basketball association. My family loves him. Because I Am Me.

First thing it's so great to see this filmed in the Bronx. My heart swelled once I saw Fordham Rd.
