Hafencafé
Ulla Meinecke Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Du wolltest wissen, wo ich her bin
Jetzt bist du wohl gelandet, meldest dich zurück
The song "Hafencafé" by Ulla Meinecke describes a woman standing on a balcony overlooking a harbor café, feeling a sense of longing and nostalgia as she thinks back on her past with a lover who has now flown away. The setting of the beach and the ocean brings up memories of the couple's past, including the way they met, and their shared experiences of joy and intimacy. The woman wonders if the man still thinks of her, or if he has moved on and forgotten her. Despite the pain of missing him, she finds comfort in dreaming of snow, symbolizing a clean and peaceful new beginning.
The lyrics are powerful and emotional, painting a vivid picture of a woman who is deeply missing her lover. By juxtaposing the vastness of the ocean and the smallness of the café, the song seems to touch on the universal feelings of nostalgia, and the sense of loss that many people feel at some point in their lives. The song also explores themes of love, distance, and the fleeting nature of time, as well as the emotions that can be sparked by memories.

I am standing on the balcony, the sky above me and the beach beneath me
Salz weht mit dem Wind ans Land
The salty sea breeze blows towards the shore
Du bist jetzt durchs Check-in, hängst im Flugzeuggurt
You have gone through check-in and are now strapped into your seat on the airplane
Hoch über den Wolken, festgezurrt
You are high above the clouds, securely fastened in your seat
I am leaning on the balcony railing above the harbor café
Hör' die ewige Brandung
I hear the eternal crashing of the waves
Hab' im Hals diesen Brand
I have this burning feeling in my throat
Fühl' mich wie'n Emmigrant
I feel like an immigrant
Und träume vom Schnee
And I dream of snow
Weißt du noch, wie es anfing?
Do you remember how it all started?

There was a swaying like from plants, and it crackled and smelled
You asked me if I loved you, and I said "Yes, yes I do"
Hey, when did you forget about me, am I still in your movie?
