Daho is best known in Britain for his appearence on the number 11 Saint Etienne hit single "He's On The Phone", which is an English-language adaptation of his 1984 French-language hit "Weekend à Rome". He also collaborated with Saint Etienne on the Resurrection EP, his album Eden, and his single "Le Premier Jour", itself based on the track "Ready or Not" from Sarah Cracknell's 1997 solo album "Lipslide".
He has worked with many other artists, such as Chris Isaak, Marianne Faithfull, Elli Medeiros, Astrud Gilberto, Vanessa Daou, the Swingle Singers, and more. His duet with Charlotte Gainsbourg, titled "If", was released in 2004.
His 1996 album Eden featured a mix of electronic-oriented songs, ranging from downtempo ballads to drum 'n' bass-influenced tracks, and HiNRG dance. Corps & armes (2000) saw Daho return to a more orchestral sound fuelled by traditional instruments, such as piano, acoustic guitar, and horns. In 2004, he released Réévolution, which featured a guitar-heavy rock sound.
In 2012, he produced and composed songs for French comedian/singer Lou Doillon for her first album Places.
Étienne Daho is one of the most influential French pop singers of the last four decades. His extensive work has seen him collaborate with many artists, and explore a wide range of musical styles.

Let's play
Règle d'or, motus
Bouche cousue nos corps à corps
Règle d'or, mystères et boules de gomme
En somme
Liaison dangereuse, let's play, let's play
Crimes, crimes, crimes
Crimes, crimes, crimes, crimes, crimes
Règle d'or, motus
Bouche cousue nos corps à corps
Règle d'or, mystères et boules de gomme
En somme
Puisque l'on se plait, let's play, let's play
Puisque l'on se plait, let's play
Puisque l'on se plait, ouh, baby let's play
Nos amours que l'on grime
Grime, grime, grime, grime
Grime, grime, grime, grime, grime
T'es ma pop égérie, let's play
Let's play, let's play, let's play
Let's play
In Étienne Daho's song "Pop égérie O.," the lyrics depict a playful and thrilling night out in Paris. The phrase "Let's play" is repeated throughout the song, emphasizing a sense of adventure and freedom. The "Règle d'or" or "golden rule" suggests a mutual understanding between two people, where secrets are kept and bodies intertwine in passionate moments. The mention of "mystères et boules de gomme" (mysteries and chewing gum) adds to the enigmatic and seductive nature of the encounter.
The lyrics also allude to a muse who indulges in sin, finding pleasure in the game. This muse is described as beautiful and amoral, exuding a scandalous perfume. The phrase "Maquillons nos crimes" (let's disguise our crimes) implies a willingness to explore forbidden desires without remorse or consequence. The song celebrates a hedonistic and intoxicating journey through the streets of Paris, where jazz music, red nails, high heels, and alcohol fuel the night's adventures.
Overall, "Pop égérie O." paints a picture of a vibrant and seductive Parisian nightlife, filled with mystery, passion, and a sense of rebellion.
