Stand By Me

And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
So darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me
If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
Or the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry, no I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh stand by me
Oh stand now by me, stand by me, stand by me-e, yeah
And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh stand by me
Oh, stand now by me, stand by me, stand by me-e, yeah
Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me
The lyrics of Ben E. King's "Stand By Me" express the deeply human desire for companionship and support. The song describes a dark and uncertain night with only the moon to guide us. However, the singer finds comfort in the knowledge that someone is standing by their side. The lyrics express the determination not to be afraid, as long as there is someone there to lean on. The refrain "Stand by me" repeats this theme of solidarity and support, urging the listener to stand with the singer through all of life's challenges.
King's use of metaphor and imagery in the second stanza reinforces this theme. The possibility of the "sky that we look upon" tumbling down and the "mountains" crumbling to the sea suggests a world in chaos. However, the singer proclaims that they will not cry or shed a tear, as long as their companion stands by their side. The refrains become increasingly urgent, as the singer implores their beloved to stay with them during troubled times.
Overall, "Stand By Me" is a powerful declaration of love and loyalty. Its simple lyrics and catchy melody have made it a beloved classic across generations, touching upon the universal need for human connection and support.

My love, stay by my side
If the sky that we look upon
Even if the sky we gaze upon
Should tumble and fall
Were to crumble and collapse

I was adopted by my father who was African American I was a Caucasian boy. I was bullied all the time because my father and I looked so different but he would always tell me, we may look a little different on the outside but we are all the same it’s not what counts on The outside but what’s inside you as a person that’s where your real worth is .my father was an amazing man I worked hard In all aspects whether it would be school training martial arts self defence.
This man was truly my real father no one could make me feel otherwise.

In 1968 I head Ben E. King sing this song at a small club on the coast of SC. King had a small band of 3 or 4 guys and I can still remember the single violin. The venue was not air conditioned. I was 18. The girl I was with was 17. 52 years later we are still a couple. And I still love the song.
