They are known for their unique sound and goofy style. In 1995 they released their first CD titled "Peor es mascar lauchas, roughly translated to "anything is better than nothing at all," a pre-emptive excuse for those who did not like the album. They actively participate in community-related events, playing benefits for the Chilean National Commission of Scientific and Technological Investigation. They are also known for musical contributions to the popular Chilean children's puppet show 31 Minutos.
Chancho en Piedra has released 11 albums since their debut in 1995, gaining them widespread familiarity, not only in Latin America but internationally as well, allowing them to perform at events such as the Memphis' Beale Street Music Festival in May of 2009.

In Chancho En Piedra's song "Cruz Del Sur," the lyrics describe the feeling of being lost and searching for guidance in a world full of confusion. The singer admits to not knowing any coordinates or how to navigate, but looks to the sky for a beacon of hope. The "Cruz Del Sur" (Southern Cross) serves as this light, as it points the way to his true home. It is compared to a star that guides him in his journey, and he trusts that it will lead him to his final resting place.
The song also touches on the idea of mortality and the inevitability of death. The singer talks about his deceased loved ones and the place where they rest, which he considers his true home. He longs to be reunited with them, and hopes that the "Cruz Del Sur" will guide him there. The song's message is one of hope and trust, emphasizing the importance of finding a guiding light in the midst of life's confusion and struggles.
