Adeus
Mariza Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Pálidos dias sem sol
Enevoados céus
Opacas noites de perfumes cálidos
Vejo tudo isso e digo adeus
Frutos doirados
Flores de estoante viço
Ondas do mar azul
Sigo a estrada do regresso
E quando volvo os meus olhos além
Vejo tudo isso e digo adeus
Vejo tudo isso e digo adeus
E porque é tarde estou cansado
Sigo a estrada do regresso
E quando volvo os meus olhos além
Vejo tudo isso e digo adeus
Vejo tudo isso e digo adeus
Vejo tudo isso e digo adeus
In the song "Adeus," Mariza sings of bidding farewell to different aspects of nature and life. The lyrics describe serene mornings and pale, sunless days, as well as misty skies and warm-scented nights. Even as she acknowledges the beauty of these moments, Mariza chooses to say goodbye to them. She also mentions golden fruits, vibrant flowers, rocky beaches, and the waves of the blue sea. Again, despite their appeal, she opts to bid them farewell.
The second verse reveals her reasons for this seemingly melancholy outlook. Mariza suggests that her desires have been overshadowed by heavy veils, perhaps alluding to the weight of societal expectations or personal struggles. She concludes that life must be lived for others, and with this realization, she must let go of the things she loves. The final verse reiterates her fatigue and need to rest, and as she travels back home, she gazes beyond her surroundings and declares goodbye once more.
The lyrics of "Adeus" evoke a sense of bittersweet nostalgia and a longing to let go of attachments. Mariza's clear and emotive vocals enhance this feeling, creating a poignant atmosphere that lingers long after the song has ended.
