Debout Tous
Serge Lama Lyrics

Debout tous, debout tous
Debout tous, debout tous
Debout tous, debout tous
The lyrics of Serge Lama's song, Debout Tous, describe a group of people who are portrayed as heroes living in tatters. Even though they are naked, malnourished, and lacking in resources, they are still able to fight for something better. The song talks about the winds of change that are blowing and pushing them towards a new era. The chorus encourages them to stand tall in the face of adversity.
Despite their lack of resources, they hold a great deal of potential. The end of their rifles signifies the means to finding fertile plains, hidden treasures in cities, and women who are bored and lonely. The second verse describes them as kings in rags, but elsewhere, the sun shines and the grass is soft. They carry with them the spirit of the revolution wherever they go, and they are willing to fight for their freedom.
The final stanza speaks to the glory and the institutions they will find outside of their homeland. The singer, addressed as "child of the Motherland", emphasizes why they continue to march and fight. They do so for freedom, for equality, and for love. The last line, "We are kings without a kingdom/ Stand up, all of you", is a rallying call for people to unite and fight for their rights.
