Beginning as a big-haired, black-clad garage punk outfit and soon morphing … Read Full Bio ↴Beginning as a big-haired, black-clad garage punk outfit and soon morphing into something more experimental, the Horrors featured singer Faris Badwan, bassist Tom Furse, guitarist Joshua Hayward, drummer Joe Spurgeon, and keyboardist Rhys Webb. The Horrors formed in the summer of 2005 and quickly gained notoriety around London for their look, sound, and brief but frantic live shows. Loog soon signed them, and the Horrors released their official debut single, "Sheena Is a Parasite/Jack the Ripper," in spring 2006. That summer the Horrors released their second single, Death at the Chapel. They also reissued "Sheena Is a Parasite" as a limited-edition DVD single. The song's startling video was directed by Chris Cunningham and featured actress Samantha Morton as Sheena. Late that summer, the band signed to Stolen Transmission in the U.S. and released a self-titled EP that fall. They also issued the Count in Fives single in the U.K. around that time.
The Gloves single arrived early in 2007, heralding the release of the Horrors' full-length debut, Strange House, which arrived in the U.K. that March and in the U.S. in May. In 2008, Webb and Furse formed the analog synth project Spider & the Flies, and released the album Something Clockwork This Way Comes. For 2009's Primary Colours, the band worked with Cunningham and Portishead's Geoff Barrow as co-producers, opting for a very different sound that mixed shoegaze, post-punk, and goth; the album was released by XL that spring and earned several critical raves, including NME's Album of the Year. In between albums, Badwan teamed with Canadian opera singer Rachel Zeffira for the hazy pop project Cat's Eyes, which released its self-titled debut in early 2011. The Horrors self-produced their follow-up, 2011's Skying, which featured a lighter yet still atmospheric sound that drew comparisons to My Bloody Valentine and the Psychedelic Furs. In 2012, they released the remix companion album Higher and embarked on an extensive tour. In 2013, they began recording new material with producer Craig Silvey. Early the following year, the single "I See You" reflected the more expansive direction of their fourth album, Luminous, which arrived in May 2014. The Horrors began work on their next full-length with Paul Epworth at London's Church Studios in 2015, and forged a darker, rawer yet still danceable sound that borrowed from '80s post-punk, synth-pop, and '90s dance. The result was V, which arrived in September 2017.

As a nurse I can say, with zero hesitation that any sort of first responder has my support. Staring an unfolding horror in the face is something I personally am not built for and to those who can endure this I have nothing but admiration, love and respect for.
Working in trauma we see some downright terrible things but the people who come into the department are already assessed and usually still somewhat intact and alive. Maybe they expired en route but there was hope…first responders find the cases of no hope. They see it all…the people who are beyond saving and THAT is what I’d never be able to handle. We get someone and we go to work, there’s a system, it looks like chaos but there’s order to it, literal ABCs and you just move and do do do. The hardest thing to do is nothing.
Coming upon bad wrecks…fatalities DOAs I just can’t deal and to those who do this hats off and to those who have to have the intimate experience of a phone pressed against your ear, hearing people scream nightmares is too much to bear thinking about.
Heroes. Each and every one. From 911 dispatchers to EMTs and firefighters.
People commend nurses, and that’s great, but I assure you, there are harder jobs.
I marvel at how individuals drawn to this sector find their niches.
I did emergency medicine/trauma for a long while, segued to critical care and jumped ship to comfortably work hospice.
People always say they don’t know how I do it, and I spare them the nitty gritty details that make my job easy because the reality of what any frontline person can do.
Kudos and I hope the awareness of NEED gets raised.
911 dispatchers need more resources for technical equipment, that is for the population as well, the fact they’ve had to hang up is terrifying.
Then the serious need for resource allocation for mental health services.
These people aren’t paid enough to do this, and to be seen as “clerical” is insult to injury.
If we want them to do their job effectively a job no one wants…let’s treat them better, let’s give them HELP and trust what they’re asking for is valid! The turnover is from burnout so you’ve got a lot of new folks who won’t be around long enough to gain the wisdom needed to be excellent.
It behooves all of us to loosen up the purse strings a bit.

They can’t give instruction based on their own opinion. They can give instruction based on factual information. Such as the steps to perform cpr, instruction on slowing or stopping bleeding, etc.
