Anica
Thompson Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Zapalit ću Krajinu do Knina
Zapalit ću dva, tri srpska taba,
Da ja nisam dolazio daba.
Ej, Anice kninska kraljice,
Ej, Anice kninska kraljice,
Ej, Anice kninska kraljice.
Zbog Anice i bokala vina,
Zapalit ću Krajinu do Knina
Ej, Hrvati sjetimo se Knina,
Hrvatskoga kralja Zvonimira.
Ej, Anice kninska kraljice,
Ej, Anice kninska kraljice,
Ej, Anice kninska kraljice.
The lyrics to "Anica" by Thompson appear to be somewhat controversial, as they allude to setting fire to parts of Croatia and Serbia. The first lines, "Zbog Anice i bokala vina, / Zapalit ću Krajinu do Knina" roughly translate to, "Because of Anica and a bottle of wine, I will set Krajina on fire up to Knin." This could be interpreted as a reference to the Krajina region of Croatia, which was a Serbian-held territory during the Croatian War of Independence in the 1990s. However, it's unclear if the lyrics are meant to be taken literally or are more metaphorical.
The next lines, "Zapalit ću dva, tri srpska štaba, / Da ja nisam dolazio džaba," translate to, "I will set fire to two or three Serbian headquarters / So that my coming wasn't in vain." Again, it's unclear if this is meant to be an actual threat or is more of a symbolic gesture. The chorus, "Ej, Anice kninska kraljice," roughly translates to "Hey, Anica queen of Knin" and is repeated several times throughout the song.
