In San Francisco, in 1957- on KOBY radio station 1550 on the am dial- it reached at least #8. On the chart I recently found, it was "8 weeks on the chart, that 8th week it was #10 down from #8 . We all loved that song! THE BEST DOO WOP SONG EVER!

i have all my dads 78s and 45s from when he was a teenager and this i have on 78 from him,he was 18 in 1955 he showed me pictures from that time all his friends and him were all in black leather jackets white t shirts blue denim jeans rolled up at bottom and black boots, all greasers, and beautiful cars and hotrods in the picture also,my dad had a 1962 vette when he met my mom, miss him he is gone now but the way he talked about the 50s early 60s it was like i lived it myself ,wish i could have 50s music and culture rules will never be another decade like it.

One great thing about the original doo-wop era is that all it takes sometimes is a group of kids fresh off a street corner to take their best idea into a recording studio and commit it to vinyl. The Charts were this group and what they put out is so monumental and fresh that we in the 21st century are still playing it. Good going guys, you did your music and your genre proud.

I know things were so very different and nobody no matter how great actually became great and made any money at all. So many really great groups would walk into a recording studio sings their hearts out and though no fault of theirs nothing would come of it. No one could ever take away the greatness of The Charts and the proof is all these years later we're still listening to them and still amazed how absolutely perfect they were

Sixty years ago this week, this doo-wop classic from the Charts was the number 3 song in the Billboard Top 40. While doo-wop as a musical form came and went, there is something enduring to the genre. One great thing about the original doo-wop era is that all it took most of the time was a group of kids fresh off a street corner to take their best idea into a recording studio and commit it to vinyl. As Dion DiMucci said famously later on, “The street corner was the proverbial recording studio for most of us.” Doo wop shoo bop she doo. Long may it live.

This tune is haunting in a good way, and I liked it very much, although I never knew a girl named Deserie. Nevertheless, it stands out as a great representation of one of the best doo-wop ballads of its era, and as such, it remains justifiably an iconic song of its time. We in the Pittsburgh area all knew it, and moreover, enjoyed it enormously.

A great NY doo wop hit! Ironically, "Deserie" charted much higher in San Francisco and even in Phoenix! The record peaked at #5 in San Francisco on KOBY Sept. 30, 1957 and #12 on KPHO Phoenix Nov. 22, 1957. "Desiree" charted for only three weeks in July, 1957 on WMGM New York, peaking at #27.

Strange but true! This all-time NY doo wop classic got much more airplay in the west than it did in its home market. That all said, one of my favorite doo wop songs!

One of the greatest and highly original doo-wop songs of all time. From the soulful background ah-wahs to the lead's alternating between regular voice and falsetto. Notice that there is no channel (as we called it.) It is a sad story that the group got very little remuneration for this and their other great songs - Dance Girl and You're the Reason are the ones that come to mind.

Every area had its own brand of Doo Wop songs and this will always be a Pittsburgh favorite even though they started out as The Thrilltones in Harlem, New York in 1956.

You're right, it doesn't get any better than this. It sends shivers up my back when ever I hear any of this kind of music. In answer to the question where has this music gone...just keep the faith and keep playing and promoting it. There are millions of us out there who will stand up and keep it alive.

Back in the mid 50's some guys would put names of songs on the sides of their old Chevys Fords and Mercs one i remember was this one "DESERIE" thanks seasidedoowop for the memories down East LA Calif. when i was 14 years 1959 still lookin for Jackie McGraw Griffith Jr High
