Nesquik Guy: This is a poem that I wrote while listening to Enya's "Orinoco Flow":

THE DOVE AND ME

I lifted my hand
A dove landed on it
And I asked it
“Where have you been?
Have you been east to the sunrise?
Have you been west to the sunset?
Have you been up into the sky
Where it's noon and midnight?”

The dove looked at me,
Then out to sea
And said, “I have seen
A world of wonder
That you've only dreamed of.
I have seen the fountains of the sun
And the frozen glaciers of the moon.
If only you had wings
So that you could go where I go.”

I sadly shook my head
And sat down on a rock,
Watching the waves flow onto the beach
Only to stop inches from me,
And then slip back into the sea,
An endless pattern like eternity.

“I have no wings,” I said.
“I only have my imagination.”
And the dove said, “Silly human.
Did you think that I meant wings
Like mine, covered with feathers?”

“Didn't you?” I asked.

“Of course not,” the dove said.
“Now imagine your arms are wings.”
I did and they were.
“Now imagine that you're lifting them,”
The dove said. “Now sweep down
And jump into the sky.”
I did and I was suddenly
Rising above where I'd sat.

“Now come with me,” the dove said.
“There are thousands of places
That I have been to, places
That I want to show you.”
I did and we did.

“Is this what heaven is like?” I asked.

"Where did you think we were?” the dove asked.

"But what about my body?” I asked.

“You won't need it anymore,” the dove said.

And I didn't.

I have crippling depression, I'm too lonely, too depressed , feels like I can never escape. Clicked on this song hoping it would bring a little light into my darkness.
It did , for a little moment , I felt like I was floating through the clouds under a moonlit starry sky . Wearing a flowy dress and dancing in the wind.

For me this song will always be a memory of my mom, when I was like 5-7years old, she always playing Caribbean Blue on the CD player and dancing and fooling around. while I was just sitting and watching her. She passed away a few months ago due to Huntington's Disease after being sick for 12 years - This is probably one of my best memories of her - and she also looked very similar to Enya - very beautiful and pure.

She played this song to us as we were warming up, and forever for me this song will be associated with childhood, happiness, no worries in the world, and a tremendous love for my mama. Reminds me of hearing this on the radio in my car, driving my girlfriend home (now my wife of 27 years) from South West to North East London in the early hours of the morning. In the days when there was no traffic on the roads late at night in London. Every corner we turned gave me the chance to glance at her beautiful face and then out of the car windows, at a million stars. I was 21 years old then, the best of times. During dull times at work, when I’m on my own and at that 3am awake time, I often look back in my mind to that time and my heart fills with love for her, the happiness, and all we’ve been and will be. My father died December 23, 2020 from COVID. We played this song at his funeral. He loved this song. Thirty years ago he and I went on a road trip to Minneapolis and we listened to this song over and over. It is a wonderful memory. My heart still breaks that I couldn't be with him when he passed away. I will ALWAYS think of him when I hear this song.

My wife, whom I met in an ESL classroom is Japanese, and I've traveled to Japan 4 times, once as a 9-year-old boy. You were lucky to hear this as a child. It’s taken a couple of years since my moms passing to be able to listen to Enya without crying like a baby. She departed this world way too early and out of nowhere, we didn’t see it coming at all. Now, when I hear Enya’s beautiful voice it brings up happy moments and some happy tears. My mom would play Enya on road trips to calm everyone down, she’d play Enya while working in the garden, she played Enya a lot. These songs are forever burned into the forefront of my mind and my heart and I love that.

Am more a Misfits, Ramones, DRI, Agnostic Front, Slayer, old old metallica fan (before the bassist cliff died), etc and love all kinds of music, but after accidentally finding this particular woman via deadpool 2 (whatever it took to get here was fine by me), song and video about 2yrs ago it still blows me away to this day.

Listening to it just now (been a yr or so) while drinking coffee it brought back OLD memories I'd forgotten with cousins at an aunts mansion in illinois during summers or for a few wks at a time to give mom a break I would guess that were some of the best times ever. True innocence. True.

Have thought about making a similar song, because I honestly believe there's something different at work at least in this one. The combination of hertz frequencies from odd synthesizers is unique in many ways but can only be heard w exceptional speakers or headphones. Hertz have effects on peoples minds whether one wants to admit or not. Alien3 movie caused everyone to pee from too much low rumble etc. The frequencies used.. just wish I knew more about that to really dissect and diagnose it in full. Reason.. I believe it was done on purpose. It's not an accident or just a "good song". You HAVE to like it or else she got really, really lucky like other bands can too with melodic harmonies.

It makes me feel different, in a positive yet sad way too (we all mourn some part of our past that was dear and now gone) as I cried about midway through. Tough guy with Anthrax band shirt that says "spreading the disease" huh? Yes and no. Am just a human being. Thanks for reading.

@@josmalig-on2907 Or hell. Def one or the other. Listen to Robert Johnson, not just a few songs but a collection or similar. You tell me he didn't make some kind of deal to be THAT good and it'd be a lie. It's scary. So is Enya. That's why I like her. This song is too good in the same way.. like she received "outside" help too. Those bands and artists are always the best.

I remember my parents used to play Enya when I was a child. Now I’m 25, I barely remember these melodies (except for Only time since it is used everywhere), and now, ~20 years later, I decided to play some of them… I simply started crying, I don’t even know why because I usually don’t cry because of music. Some vague childhood memories hit me like a train. Glad to realise I was grown on Enya :)

When i listen to music from my youth i feel sad at what was lost, i developed severe depression later in life and i still remember when i was happy and could enjoy life, now i am always sad for no reason even when i should be the opposite. Its like i am 2 different people, the before and after and i miss the person i was before.
