KUNI BAI GUNGUNLA
Asha Bhosle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kuni Bai Gungunla describe the beauty of nature during the monsoons in a village setting. The opening lines talk about the gentle patter of raindrops, which sound like the Yamuna river overflowing its banks. The next few lines describe how the rainwater has inundated the roads and fields, and how Mohan has gone away to some unknown destination in this weather.

The next stanza describes the beauty of a tree, which has become so wet that its branches are drooping. On top of it, a bird is sitting and enjoying the rain, while Radha gets wet with the water dripping from the tree. The imagery of lightning striking and thunder rumbling adds to the vividness of the scene. The final stanza talks about how the water in the pond reflects the image of Radha, how she smiles and looks like a queen in green attire, and how even woolen clothes get drenched in this beautiful rain.

The lyrics beautifully depict the joys of the monsoons in the rural Indian setting and how they affect the lives of people and nature around them.
