The lyrics of "Murti Mant Bhagawant Bhetala" by Asha Bhosle celebrate the meeting of the devotee with the divine. The opening line, "Murti Mant Bhagawant Bhetala," roughly translates to "Meeting with the embodied manifestation of God himself." The next line, "De, kanth kokile mala" expresses the singer's desire to be gifted with the melodious voice of the cuckoo so that she may sing sweetly like it.
In the following lines, the singer talks about how unexpectedly the month of Madhumas (an Indian calendar month) has arrived and brought with it the story of the divine. The symbolism of the 'amrut' or nectar-bearing tree represents the divine knowledge that the singer has just received. It's said that the singer's vocal cords were charged with devotion and emotion after they heard the story.
The following lines express the singer's gratitude towards the divine. The singer notes that the divine's mercy and grace helped them attain this knowledge, and there are no words to express the singer's thankfulness.
The song is a devotional composition, and its lyrics are penned by noted Marathi poet Jagdish Khebudkar, and Asha Bhosle has lent her melodious voice to it. "Murti Mant Bhagawant Bhetala" is a timeless classic that has been re-recorded and performed by many artists over the years. The song's serene melody is a testimony to the composer Hridaynath Mangeshkar's genius.
