Some of his classic recordings include "School of Rock 'n Roll", "Straight Skirt", "Nervous", "Gotta Lotta That", and "Twixteen". Summers was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame in 1997 and The Southern Legends Entertainment & Performing Arts Hall of Fame in 2005. He still performs worldwide and celebrated his 50th anniversary as a recording artist in 2008 with the release of Reminisce Cafe.
Summers graduated from Duncanville High School in 1957 and attended Arlington State College, now known as the University of Texas at Arlington. That same year, he formed the rockabilly band The Rebels and performed on Joe Bill's Country Picnic on KRLD, where they were spotted by songwriter Jed Tarver. This led to the band being signed by newly-found Jan Records. Their first record was released on February 1, 1958, under the name of Gene Summers & His Rebels.

I'm not a believer of christianity at least not in a normal traditional sense but still this song moves me to tears especially knowing it's based on a true tragedy that happened. I feel bad for the character portrayed singing in this song he was going to marry his beloved his life's best prize but she died! I cry when I play this. I suffer some mental illness but this song does keep my heart soft! If theres any kind of caring god up there I ask why I must remain so lonely lately with no woman to hold me especially since I'm soft in the heart to cry over this song! :(

Odd coincidence this man Gene Summers died exact same day including same year this year February 17, 2021 as my cat Magus. I found this song before I knew Magus would die a month or so? beforehand and listened to it alot after my cat Magus died (euthanized) but didn't even know Gene died the exact same day til I checked out one of his other songs and saw the post from someone saying "R.I.P. Gene February 17, 2021." Maybe my cat Magus and Gene got to meet in heaven! I hope! Thank you Gene for playing and singing this song it helped me and still does cry out my pain and grief over the loss of my cat Magus!
