His first album featured a recording of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom. The song reached number one in the UK in 1968, became a staple of his many live shows (Woodstock and the Isle of Wight in 1969, the Party at the Palace in 2002) and was also known as the theme song for the late 1980s American TV series The Wonder Years. He continued his success with his second album, which included a second Beatles song: "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window". A hastily thrown together 1970 US tour led to the live double-album Mad Dogs & Englishmen, which featured an all-star band organized by Leon Russell. His 1974 recording of "You Are So Beautiful" reached number five in the US, and became his signature song. Cocker's best selling song was the US number one "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes that earned a 1983 Grammy Award. He released a total of 22 studio albums over a 43-year recording career.
In 1993, Cocker was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male. He was awarded a bronze Sheffield Legends plaque in his hometown in 2007, and received an OBE the following year for services to music. Cocker was ranked number 97 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest singers list.

There's a Storm Coming
Joe Cocker Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I can see it in her eyes
I can hear it in the way she says "everything's all right"
I can feel it in the air between us
And I think I know the reason why
There′s a storm coming
Tonight
As she turns away from me
And I know there's nothing I can say
That she'll believe
There′s a sound of rolling thunder
That′ll be shaking everything in sight
There's a storm coming
Tonight
Clouds of anger, tears of rain
Just have to hold on, be strong
And hope that it doesn′t blow us away
There's a storm coming
I can see it in her eyes
Of the broken promises
Yeah and the alibis
I can feel it in the air between us
And I think I know the reason why
There′s a storm coming
There's a storm coming
There′s a storm coming
Tonight
Here comes the rain
Bring on the rain
The lyrics to Joe Cocker's song "There's a Storm Coming" depict a tumultuous and impending emotional storm in a relationship. The storm is symbolized by the turmoil and tension between the singer and his partner. The singer can sense the storm approaching through various signs. He can see it in her eyes, where the turmoil and unease are evident. He can hear it in the way she reassures him that everything is alright, but her voice carries a hint of dishonesty. He can even feel it in the air between them, as the tension becomes palpable.
As the storm begins to intensify, the singer describes the rain as his partner turning away from him, unwilling to listen or believe anything he has to say. The sound of rolling thunder represents the impending chaos that will shake everything in sight. The storm is a metaphor for the anger, disappointment, broken promises, and lies that have accumulated in the relationship.
Despite the turmoil, the singer encourages himself and his partner to hold on and be strong, hoping that the storm doesn't completely destroy their connection. The lyrics convey a sense of uncertainty and helplessness, as the storm threatens to wash away everything they have built together.
In conclusion, "There's a Storm Coming" by Joe Cocker illustrates the impending emotional turmoil and turbulence in a relationship. The lyrics depict the signs of the storm approaching and convey the sense of uncertainty and unease that both partners feel.
