Hadad was born in Hadera, Israel. Her real name is Sara Hodedatov (שרה חודדטוב). She comes from a musical family.
Since she was 8 years old she started giving performances at a local club as a child prodigy playing classical music on the piano. She didn't tell her parents, and when they found out two years later the performances were over. In that period she taught herself to play the organ, guitar, accordion and darbuka among others.
When she was 15 she joined the Hadera Youth Band. This was the first step to her solo career, during which many of her songs topped the Israeli charts. Israeli Television selected her to represent her country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 with the song Light a candle. There were some requests to disqualify this song because of the political situation in Israel, but Eurovision has no rules requiring such disqualification. Her final result was 12th place.
Sarit Hadad has been a student at the Democratic School of Hadera.

In "שלמים" by Sarit Hadad, the singer expresses a sense of contentment with what she has in life, and a belief that she will never need anything else. She sings that no one can take away what's already hers, and that she won't need what she doesn't have. Additionally, she reflects on the various emotions in the world, such as love, disappointment, and hope, and how people continue to search for them. She calls on a higher power, represented by the word "Elokim," to help her forget her sadness and to give her strength to bloom. Despite the existence of war and disappointment, there is still love in her heart, and joy in her eyes.
The song's lyrics are an example of gratitude and self-awareness. Sarit acknowledges that she has enough in her life and that there is no need for more. She contrasts this with the ubiquitous search for love, faith, and hope, indicating that she has already found contentment with what she currently has. The word "Elokim" has both religious and secular connotations, as it can mean God, but it can also refer to a higher power that exists beyond a single religion. The use of this word reinforces the idea that even when life is difficult, there is always something greater that can provide strength and support.
