Nobuo Uematsu (植松伸夫 Uematsu Nobuo) (born March 21, 1959) is a Japanese composer of video game music. He is best known for his work with game developer Squaresoft (now Square Enix), having provided scores for a majority of installments of Square's Final Fantasy series of role-playing games. Uematsu's body of work - composed, in its entirety, on keyboards - is known for its distinct eclecticism, and has secured his status as one of the most popular and beloved composers of video game music in the world.
Nobuo Uematsu was born in Kōchi, Kōchi Prefecture, Japan. A self-taught musician, he began to play the piano when he was eleven or twelve years old, and he did not take any formal piano lessons. After graduating from Kanagawa University, Uematsu played the keyboard in several amateur bands and composed music for television commercials.
When Uematsu was working at a music rental shop in Tokyo, a Square employee asked if he would be interested in creating music for some of the titles they were working on. Although he agreed, Uematsu considered it a side job, and he did not think it would become a full-time career. He said it was a way to make some money on the side, while also keeping his part-time job at the music rental shop. His first score for Square was Cruise Chaser Blassty, released in 1986.
Uematsu enjoyed massive commercial success with the song "Eyes on Me" performed by 王菲 and featured in Final Fantasy VIII. The single sold 400,000 copies, a record for a video game song, and won the "Song of the Year" award at the 1999 Japan Gold Disc Awards. Uematsu was subsequently named in Time Magazine's list of the Top 100 Innovators - Music, and has toured Japan playing classical concerts on several occasions.
His music itself is notoriously eclectic, tracks featured skip between pop-style balladry, to fusion styles incorporating African traditions, to, in recent years, a number of Celtic-influenced recordings and releases. Many of his works also contain elements of progressive rock and hard rock. His formation of The Black Mages, a rock band, in 2003, allowed him to experiment with his own compositions, releasing band renditions of a significant number of tracks from his soundtracks. The Black Mages disbanded in 2010, but Uematsu formed a new band featuring other ex-Black Mages members and some new faces, Earthbound Papas, in its wake.
In 2004, Uematsu formed his own production company, Smile Please, to which Uematsu's compositions for CG-animated film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is credited. Uematsu continues to compose for Square Enix and other video game developers, such as Mistwalker. Notably, he worked on the soundtrack for the Nintendo crossover fighting game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, having composed its main theme.

2:00 Zidane "Come on. I'm just kiddin'. You know I never forget a pretty girl's name."
Zidane, Freya isn't even human, she is an anthropomorphic rat. Actually, speaking of the demi-humans, I heard somewhere that, according to the Ultimania, the failed fusion of Gaia and Terra is what made the demi-humans… And I have to say, how? Why would the attempted fusion of the crystals randomly make furries? This has no deep impact or implications in the story, and I feel like it was something that the writers just threw into the supplementary materials (Just like the Ultimania's explanation for Necron).
[Name the character "Freya"]
Well, here is Freya, whose story arc with Fratley is never fully completed and just gets booted to the side with what could be described as a twist tie of a resolution, but that's for later. Still has more personality than Garnet, though.
Zidane "So, how've you been, Freya?"
Freya "...Same old Zidane."
[Both of them stand together, in front of the counter]
Zidane "How long has it been?"
Freya "About 3 years."
Zidane "Hey, did you ever find out anything about your boyfriend?"
Freya "No..."
Zidane "So... What brings you to Lindblum?"
Freya "The Festival of the Hunt. What else? It's a good oppurtunity to test my skills."
Zidane "Oh... Well, I'm sure you'll find him someday."
Freya "Aren't you participating?"
Zidane "...Nah. I think I'll pass."
Are you really not going to bring up everything that you have been through to Freya, Zidane? Especially about Garnet?
It would have been better to have actual interaction between Freya and Garnet, with Freya even telling Garnet more about Zidane since Freya has a history with him, and tell Garnet some things about love, especially considering that Freya also has a love story. (Which is also much better done than Zidane's and Garnet's, even if it's dropped completely out of the game later and has a cheap resolution) But nope, we never get any actual decent interaction and wholesome cute girl talk between Freya and Dagger, or any good development of the love story.

0:00 Dagger "South Gate was badly damaged..."
"It was my fault, wasn't it...?"
And here we go with the annoying "Garnet constantly whines about herself" moments. The gate wasn't even that badly damaged, stop exaggerating. But her whining is only going to get worse from here.
Zidane "Don't worry about it! They'll fix it up in no time."
Steiner "You idiot!"
"The cargo ship was wrecked, we lost all the cargo, and South Gate was destroyed!"
"I can't believe I played a part in this debacle!"
Dagger "Steiner."
Steiner "Yes, Princess!"
Dagger "I didn't mean to get you involved... But you saved us."
"I thank you."
No, he didn't. He kept trying to sabotage your attempts to get to Lindblum. Stop shilling Steiner, Garnet.
Steiner "Such kind words! I am not worthy!"
"Well, now I've made up my mind!"
"I vow to protect you, Princess, until we return to the castle!"
No, that's Zidane's job.
Zidane "How do you feel about that, Dagger? He'll follow you to the end of the world."
Oh joy… Don't you have anything better to say, Zidane? Shouldn't you be just a tad bit more annoyed since Steiner keeps getting in the way of your love story with Garnet and won't shut up?
Dagger "It's okay, Zidane."
"Hey, I can see the main gate of Lindblum!"
Steiner "That's Lindblum Castle!? How gigantic...!"
Dagger "The city of Lindblum is inside the castle."
Zidane (I guess Dagger and I will go our seperate ways once we reach Lindblum...)
Uh no, you can still stay by Garnet's side.
Seriously, what is up with you, Zidane? You literally left tantalus to save her and be with her and now you are just back peddling? So much for commitment.
Of course, Zidane's statement is also ironically foreshadowing the stupidity that will happen at the end of Lindblum.
Steiner "I see..."
Zidane (Just when we were beginning to get close...)
Again, you can just say screw it and stick with Garnet, nothing is stopping you.

That scene it originally showed in the aftermath of Black Waltz 3 has never gotten enough appreciation. Steiner is incredible there. He realizes that the advice he gives Vivi applies to himself as well. You can see it in the pose he makes immediately after saying it. What an amazing, subtle job done by Square in that moment.
@Zelink108
Doesn’t make what happens in Lindblum any less shitty, along with the whole stupid “return to Alexandria” plotline.
@IcyAuron
@@Zelink108 You’re wrong, as always. I’m so sick of seeing you infect every single post. The beginning of the game is not pointless. The characters start to grow. The plot, like any good story, is character-driven. Things don’t just randomly happen in the world, people drive the events of the game. You revisit several locations, in many games. It shows how things have changed. Just imagine, even for two minutes, how different the game would be if it started 1/3 of the way through disc two. You shouldn’t have to have that explained to you. I’m not going to waste anymore of my time or energy even replying to you. You clearly don’t care about facts or what anyone else has to say.
@Zelink108
@@IcyAuron The beginning of the game IS pointless, the whole point was to “kidnap” Garnet and get her out of Alexandria, away from her crazy mother, only for Garnet to randomly decide to go back anyways and make all of that previous efforts pointless. But making your dumb mental gymnastics and trying to excuse Garnet’s unbelievable behaviour and ruining the love story.
@Zelink108
@@IcyAuron Funny, because you clearly don’t care about what I have to say and the facts I give. You started moving the goalposts.
