The laboratory is part of the Aperture Science Laboratory, researching psychoacoustics to enhance the immersive and multidimensional experience generated by Valve's most widely lauded game, Portal and its successor Portal 2.
According to Aperture, "Whether you’re a mega-science corporation with decades of test experience, or a young start-up liberating your first test subject from non-testing with a chloroform-soaked rag, Aperture guarantees results. Wake up your test subject, open the chamber door, and press play—let Aperture’s patent-pending rhythmic compliance enhancers do the rest." Although I have to say Portal 2 is the superior game, I think Portal had a truly unique feel to it that Portal 2 failed to grasp. Idk, I guess Portal 1 just had alot more mystery to it, where as Portal 2 was more about action and comedy.
@comradegarrett1202
i think portal 1 was a much darker, more mature-feeling game and closer to the heart of "classic" Valve. Portal 2 was trying really hard for that E10+ rating - minor details like no blood spatter on the walls when you get shot, less of an emphasis on death, etc really made the game feel less real and more fantastical.
@isomericgamer6644
Garrett Norris yeah portal 1 was having a half life feel to it. Which was nice.
@employee4275
Some parts of 2 were pretty fucking dark. Old Aperture mainly.

The thing was, you now know that GLaDOS isn't your friend.
They made it more about fighting back this time now that you know who She is
@hemprope4326
@@comradegarrett1202 also the fact that aperture lost the small grounded-ness and realism that it had in the first one. The aesthetic and technology shown in portal 2 is way too advanced when it's supposed to be no different from portal 1. Think of how it looks outside the test chambers. It's a regular lab in the first game, but in the second it's this giant futuristic robot city despite no canonical advancement in aperture happening after the first game.
