The song “Poosteh Shir” by Ebi is a song about the inner longing for freedom and the desire to break free and transcend the limitations that are placed upon us. The lyrics depict an inherent dichotomy between the skin of the lion and the heart of a bird, emphasizing the importance of breaking free from constraints and limitations in order to fully develop one's own individual sense of self. The lyrics suggest the idea that every person has their own path to follow in life, often a difficult or lonely road, but one that is essential for personal growth and development.
The first few lines begin with a metaphor that explores the heart of a bird in comparison to its skin to that of a lion. The heart of a bird might represent a person's internal yearning, desire, or need for freedom, while the skin of a lion might represent the external constraints and limitations placed upon us. The song then goes on to discuss the feeling of being trapped or imprisoned, with the lyric “Zindoon tan raha kon” (free the captive body) suggesting that the singer is looking for a way to escape or break free from the circumstances they have found themselves in.
The song then contrasts different environments that are available to the singer, with one side of the spectrum representing a lush green jungle, and the other side representing dark, lonely nights. The song emphasizes the idea that every person must have faith in their destiny, even when it is difficult or overwhelming. Ultimately, the lyrics express a sense of hopefulness that despite the hardships and difficulties that one may encounter, there is still a possibility for finding freedom and fulfillment in life.
