Händel's musical talent was evident from a young age, and despite his father's initial opposition, he received early musical training and excelled in playing the harpsichord and organ.
In his early 20s, Händel traveled to Hamburg, where he immersed himself in the opera scene. There, he composed his first operas and gained recognition for his talent. Seeking further inspiration and opportunities, Händel journeyed to Italy in 1706, where he studied under renowned composers and absorbed the rich musical traditions of the country. During his time in Italy, he composed numerous operas and sacred music, establishing his reputation as a skilled composer.
In 1710, Händel settled in London, England, where he initially composed Italian operas for the Royal Academy of Music. However, as public taste changed, he transitioned to composing English-language oratorios, which combined elements of opera and sacred music. His oratorio "Esther" in 1718 marked the beginning of his success in this genre.
Händel's fame soared with his composition of the oratorio "Messiah" in 1741. Despite its initial lukewarm reception, "Messiah" eventually became one of the most beloved and frequently performed works in the Western classical repertoire. Händel's oratorios, including "Samson," "Judas Maccabaeus," and "Israel in Egypt," showcased his ability to blend grandeur, emotional depth, and dramatic storytelling.
Beyond oratorios, Händel composed instrumental music, including concertos and orchestral suites. His famous "Water Music" and "Music for the Royal Fireworks" exemplify his skill in crafting joyful and celebratory compositions. Händel's works exhibited a mastery of counterpoint, rich harmonies, and expressive melodies, earning him admiration and patronage from British nobility and royalty.
In his later years, Händel faced financial struggles and health issues, including a gradual loss of vision. However, he continued to compose prolifically, adapting to changing musical trends. Despite setbacks, his final oratorio, "Jephtha," was completed in 1751.
Georg Friedrich Händel passed away on April 14, 1759, leaving behind an immense musical legacy. His compositions played a crucial role in shaping the development of Western classical music, and his influence extended to composers such as Mozart and Beethoven. Händel's music continues to be celebrated for its grandeur, emotional depth, and timeless beauty, ensuring his enduring status as one of the greatest composers in history.

@singingone1
The best modern performance of this work. I started singing Messiah in 1965 as a senior in high school as the soprano soloist. I continued on to sing in the concert choir at ASU in the later 60's. What a JOY to sing this wonderful work. Interestingly I knew who Jesus was through this music, but did not commit my life to HIM until 1983. I sang the Messiah every year with some group as I grew into maturity either as a soloist or in the choir. I know now at 76 He had been calling me through the music because I was not hearing any other way at the time.
I still have the same score from high school which I cherish with all the markings over the years. I love to sing along even though my soprano voice has lost its height and flexibility but I can hear my voice as I sing along having memorized it all. What a JOY in my life to have this in my heart.
Jesus is The Reason for The Season.

”“Comfort and keep comforting my people,” says your God. “Tell Yerushalayim to take heart; proclaim to her that she has completed her time of service, that her guilt has been paid off, that she has received at the hand of Adonai double for all her sins.” A voice cries out: “Clear a road through the desert for Adonai! Level a highway in the ‘Aravah for our God! Let every valley be filled in, every mountain and hill lowered, the bumpy places made level and the crags become a plain. Then the glory of Adonai will be revealed; all humankind together will see it, for the mouth of Adonai has spoken.” A voice says, “Proclaim!” And I answer, “What should I proclaim?” “All humanity is merely grass, all its kindness like wildflowers: the grass dries up, the flower fades, when a wind from Adonai blows on it. Surely the people are grass! The grass dries up, the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand forever.” You who bring good news to Tziyon, get yourself up on a high mountain; you who bring good news to Yerushalayim, cry out at the top of your voice! Don’t be afraid to shout out loud! Say to the cities of Y’hudah, “Here is your God! Here comes Adonai Elohim with power, and his arm will rule for him. Look! His reward is with him, and his recompense is before him. He is like a shepherd feeding his flock, gathering his lambs with his arm, carrying them against his chest, gently leading the mother sheep.” Who has counted the handfuls of water in the sea, measured off the sky with a ruler, gauged how much dust there is on the earth, weighed the mountains on scales, or the hills in a balance? Who has measured the Spirit of Adonai? Who has been his counselor, instructing him?“

My dad would listen to Handel's Messiah every year at Christmas. ...This Christmas, I don't have him. I am listening to this because I miss him. He served as a pastor for at least the 39 years of my life and, while fighting pancreatic cancer, he was diagnosed with 6 months and lived 3 years instead. Every visit to the VA and the doctors and the MRI and the surgery and the chemo... he used any strength he had to ask everyone, "Do you know Jesus? How is your relationship with Jesus?" He reached out to nurses, orderlies, staff... even as he had to use a rollator to get around, he still had my mom take him to Market Square and he would sit and share the Word of God with whatever strength he had right until the end.
God, make me as bold.
May God bring you peace in this difficult time. Know He is there. He has not forsaken you. We just must be still and quiet enough to hear Him. He is there to comfort like nothing you have ever known. Sometimes we have to get rid of distractions in our lives so we can hear Him.
@gloriadamiani4905
Am sending hugs and prayers to your side lovely one❣❤🥰
@steray8112
Perhaps the most magnificent comment I have ever read - having read thousands. I served with my 97 year old father on the Midway today encouraging visitors who cared to stop to Talk with a WWII Veteran Today that the Lord has this whole apparently crazy mess - and, yes, He has it with crazy Joy, nearly unspeakable except as in your father's case, with severe mercy and joy. Merry Christmas. Shalu Shalom, Yerushalaim. Can't wait to meet him with Him!
@shadcrow522
Peachy thank you for your beautiful word. What a wonderful Father you had and really, you still have him.
@locoemutwo4872
This was part of my Dad's Christmas as well, He would be 98 this year. God bless us all. Praise our God Almighty.
